Disney just laid out its fall 2026 theatrical slate, and it’s a busy one. The lineup runs from Friday, September 4 through Friday, November 6. It mixes a Pixar anniversary rerelease, a Marvel encore, three IMAX documentaries, and new titles from 20th Century Studios and Searchlight. Here’s what’s hitting theaters and when.
Disney and Pixar’s Cars (20th Anniversary), September 4
The 2006 original returns to theaters on Friday, September 4. That lands right before Lightning McQueen Day on Saturday, September 5. Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, and Bonnie Hunt lead the voice cast.
Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger, September 11
Disney+ presents a special theatrical engagement of this Hulu Original documentary, which follows Liam and Noel Gallagher on the Oasis Live ’25 reunion tour. Steven Knight created it, and Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace direct. Magna Studios and Sony Music Vision produce. It plays in US theaters and select IMAX screens starting Friday, September 11.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers Endgame: Encore, September 25
Endgame heads back to the big screen on Friday, September 25. The encore includes an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday, which opens Friday, December 18. IMAX and Infinity Vision-certified theaters get an additional sneak peek.
Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry, October 9
ESPN Films goes exclusive IMAX with this one on Friday, October 9. Gotham Chopra shot it with 21 IMAX cameras at Chase Center. It captures the game against the Sacramento Kings where Curry became the first player to hit 4,000 career three-pointers. Viola Davis, Rick Rubin, Patti Smith, and Jon Batiste weigh in.
20th Century Studios’ Whalefall, October 16
Austin Abrams plays Jay Gardiner, a diver swallowed by a sperm whale. Josh Brolin plays his late father. Brian Duffield directs from a screenplay he wrote with Daniel Kraus, based on Kraus’s novel. Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd round out the cast. It opens Friday, October 16.
Everest: The Other Side, October 30
Free Solo directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin are back in IMAX on Friday, October 30. The film follows Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson on a direct North Face ascent from China. Only five people had summited that route before.
Searchlight’s Wild Horse Nine, November 6
Martin McDonagh reunites with Searchlight for the third time after Three Billboards and The Banshees of Inisherin. John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, and Steve Buscemi star. The story is set against the 1973 Chilean coup and Easter Island. It opens Friday, November 6.
Coming off a big summer
Disney enters the fall with momentum. Toy Story 5, Moana, Super Troopers 3, and The Dog Stars pushed Walt Disney Studios past $4 billion at the global box office this year. Toy Story 5 alone has crossed $1.1 billion. It scored the biggest opening weekend in franchise history domestically, internationally, and globally. It’s also the second-largest animated debut ever domestically, behind only Incredibles 2 from 2018.
Shark also has recent Marvel and film coverage, including Black Panther 3’s 2028 date and We Call It Imagineering.
