Disney parks in the United States will debut Disney Genie this fall, with tips for lower wait times and up-charges to help skip the waits.

Coming this fall to Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, Disney Genie will be a new way guests can help navigate the parks using their mobile device.

Disney Genie itself is free, and will be accessible to all guests while visiting the theme parks of Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort, however, Disney is also going to offer a special paid version as well.

Disney Genie will be built right into the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps, so you will not need to download another program or create a new account to use it.

See our breakdown on what each of the different services offer below.

Disney Genie (Free Service)

Disney Genie allows you to input your group’s personal tastes, and will give you personalized suggestions throughout the day.

From specific attractions with low wait times, to when is the best time to place your mobile order for lunch, Disney Genie will help guide you with touring details catered to you.

Here are some of the ways you can use Disney Genie:

  • Get Itinerary Updates from Morning to Night: Disney Genie will continue to update your itinerary throughout your day, so you can be more spontaneous and go with the flow.
  • Find Your Favorites at a Glance: Create your very own personal tip board to instantly see your favorites. It will display current AND forecasted future wait times, helping you predict when you might experience quicker entry to attractions.
  • Enjoy More Flexibility and Fun: Disney Genie brings existing planning features together in one place. Join a virtual queue at certain attractions, make dining and experience reservations, mobile order food at many locations, get help from a virtual assistant and more.

Disney Genie+ (Available for Purchase)

Disney Genie+ is an upcharge available for the price of $15 per ticket per day at Walt Disney World Resort and $20 per ticket per day at Disneyland Resort.

This add-on allow you to utilize the newly branded “Lightning Lane” entrances for most attractions, formerly known as FastPass. You can only make one Lightning Lane selection at a time however, and not all attractions are included in the Disney Genie+ price.

This option is the next evolution of Disneyland Resort’s MaxPass service. Lightning Lane selections can only be made on the same day of your visit, but they can be used across multiple theme parks, perfect for park hopping.

Individual Lightning Lane (Available for Purchase)

Certain attractions will not be included in the Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane selections. These will include more popular rides like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park and Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure.

For these more popular attractions you can pay to reserve a time for up to two a day, ala carte.

Pricing for this option will vary by date, attraction and park and will be announced closer to launch.

FastPass, FastPass+ and Disney MaxPass services will be retired for Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort as they plan to roll out these new features later this fall.

Along with these new services, Disney is making changes to the Disability Access Service (DAS) program, including new options to enroll in the program pre-arrival and for DAS participants to select attractions directly in the app.

Stay tuned for more details about all of these services as we get closer to the debut of Disney Genie.
