Now open, the resort’s new 8,300-square foot flagship store features more than 2,000 signature and fan-favorite items, including exclusive Harry Potter housewares.
The new Universal Studios Store opened at Universal CityWalk in Orlando last week, just in time for the big Easter weekend and Spring Break crowds.
This new store replaced four smaller third-party retail locations that were combined over the last year to create a large retail space.
Universal is utilizing this prime real estate, located between the main entrance to CityWalk and Universal Studios Florida, to attract more customers heading in and out of the theme parks each day.
The store’s interior features a modern, sleek and clean look, which helps to allow the merchandise to shine and be the star.
With three main entrances, this store is separated into three distinct areas. The central section features general “Universal Studios” and “Universal Orlando Resort” branded merchandise.
You will also find the cash registers and checkout line at the back of this central section.
Above, the centerpiece is a large cylinder screen showing clips from many of the resort’s attractions and hotels.
You can also find fitting rooms near this area, (although they are not open at this time,) as well as a decent-sized candy section, for some last-minute snacks before checking out.
To the right of the registers is a parcel pick up counter. Here you can pick up items you’ve purchased at the parks earlier that day. This way you don’t have to carry bags around all day!
The most popular area of the new store is devoted solely to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The entire left third of the store features EVERYTHING a Potter fan could ever dream of.
The new Harry Potter home collection has debuted at this store, featuring Hogwarts house-inspired drinkware, serving plates, coasters and more.
There are more exclusive items available here as well, including Hogwarts house-inspired “athleisure” wear.
At the back of this area you’ll find a wide array of Wizarding supplies, including nearly every wand available, stationary, quills and owls. Now you can be ready for Hogwarts before you even get to the park!
As a unique artistic touch for the store, designers used imagery from actual schematics and construction plans for many of the theme parks’ attractions as decoration within the displays. It’s fun to try and see which rides and buildings you can spot!
The final area, which is the side closest to the entrance to CityWalk, is where you’ll find the current spotlight items.
Currently the Jurassic World VelociCoaster is the main attraction, so the mannequin’s are wearing apparel for the new roller coaster.
Here you’ll also find a wall filled with lots of T-shirts perfect to help you prepare for the start of your vacation, or to grab as a last-minute souvenir.
And as with other gift shops around the resort, you’ll also find mugs, plush and stationary featuring many of the parks’ popular properties.
Despicable Me, Marvel, Simpsons and more each have their own mini-sections within this massive retail location.
While the store is open to all guests during CityWalk’s operating hours, work has not quite finished on the exterior. Due to the increased crowds of Spring Break and the Easter holiday, the store was opened despite work having to pause during this period.
The former Universal Studios Store in CityWalk, which is located further down, closer to Islands of Adventure, has been transformed into the Universal Legacy Store.
The Legacy Store features classic merchandise from former and current Universal Orlando attractions, and is decorated with real props from former attractions. You can see our photo report from the Legacy Store here.
That’s all for now, but we’re excited to see what spotlight merchandise we could see turn up in this new Universal Studios Store in the future.
Concept art for the new store did seem to include Super Nintendo World items, but we may still need to wait a little while longer for that.
