Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers hits theaters on March 6, and D23 just gave us a full rundown of who’s who in this animated comedy adventure. The film is directed by Daniel Chong, produced by Nicole Paradis Grindle, and features an original score by Mark Mothersbaugh. The voice cast is stacked.
I covered the Hoppers Super Bowl spot back in early February – the trailer looked great. Now that we have the full character breakdown, here’s everyone you need to know before the film opens.
Mabel Tanaka (voiced by Piper Curda)
Mabel is the heart of the story. She’s a passionate animal-lover who uses new technology to “hop” her consciousness into a lifelike robotic beaver, letting her communicate directly with animals. Her goal: stop the destruction of the glade she grew up caring for. Scrappy and fearless, she’ll use every tool at her disposal – skateboard included.
Once inside her beaver form (“Mabel Beaver”), she has to quickly learn the rules of the animal world and earn the trust of the pond’s leader.
King George (voiced by Bobby Moynihan)
King George is the leader of the pond and king of the mammals. A larger-than-life beaver with a jovial personality, he didn’t set out to be king but embraced the role enthusiastically. He created a set of guidelines for the pond called “Pond Rules” to keep everyone getting along. His motto: “We’re all in this together!”
Mayor Jerry Generazzo (voiced by Jon Hamm)
The villain of the piece. Mayor Jerry is running for reelection in Beaverton and is determined to build a highway through the glade, displacing the animals from their homes. Self-obsessed and unbothered by the moral implications of his plans, he’s the smooth-talking antagonist Mabel has to outmaneuver.
Dr. Sam (voiced by Kathy Najimy) and Nisha (voiced by Aparna Nancherla)
Dr. Sam is Mabel’s biology professor and the brilliant, nervous inventor behind the Hoppers technology. She runs her lab with precision but gets flustered fast when chaos strikes. She’s determined to use the invention only for good – because she knows that if it falls into the wrong hands, the result could be “total ecological collapse.”
Nisha is Dr. Sam’s loyal colleague and second-in-command at the top-secret lab.
The Animal Council: Insect Queen, Titus, and Bird King
The animal world has a Council, and its members are voiced by some serious talent. Meryl Streep plays the Insect Queen. Dave Franco plays Titus, the Insect Queen’s son. And the Bird King is voiced by the late Isiah Whitlock Jr., in what will be one of his final roles.
The Full Voice Cast
Beyond the main players, Hoppers features a full ensemble including Melissa Villaseñor, Ego Nwodim, Vanessa Bayer, Eduardo Franco, Nichole Sakura, and Steve Purcell.
The film looks like classic Pixar – a high-concept premise with a lot of heart. Between Meryl Streep, Jon Hamm, and the late Isiah Whitlock Jr., the voice cast alone is a reason to show up on March 6.
Disney’s consumer products team has already been building buzz around this one – Pixar’s 2026 lineup has been a major focus for the company heading into the spring season.
