Six Flags Great Adventure has received the first pieces of track for its upcoming roller coaster, marking a major construction milestone for what the park has called a “multi-world-record-breaking launch roller coaster.”
The park in Jackson, New Jersey, shared photos on February 18, 2026, showing purple track sections arriving on site. Six Flags used the hashtags #AdventureAwakens and #SFGAD2027 in its announcement, confirming the ride is on track for a 2027 opening.
Replacing Kingda Ka
The new coaster replaces Kingda Ka, which debuted in 2005 and held the records for the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world. Kingda Ka launched riders from zero to 128 miles per hour and sent them 45 stories into the air. The iconic ride was demolished in February 2025, along with Green Lantern, another coaster at the park.
Six Flags first announced the record-breaking replacement in 2024, on the same day it revealed Kingda Ka would permanently close. The ride was originally slated for a 2026 opening but has been delayed to 2027.
What We Know So Far
Details remain limited. Six Flags has not announced the name or full layout of the new attraction. The purple track pieces that arrived on Wednesday included tape with German-language labels referencing “Switch 1, Direction of travel RIGHT,” indicating where specific pieces fit within the ride’s layout.
Park officials said more updates will be provided as development continues.
What Else Is New at Great Adventure for 2026
While the record-breaking coaster won’t open until 2027, Six Flags Great Adventure has several updates for its 2026 season, which begins March 28:
- Safari Off-Road Adventure returns to park admission: Visitors will board safari vehicles from an in-park loading station, similar to the pre-2020 experience.
- El Toro track improvements: The signature wooden coaster is receiving major track work for a smoother ride.
- Expanded live entertainment and dining upgrades across the park.
Six Flags’ Broader 2027 Lineup
The Great Adventure coaster is part of a larger wave of new attractions across Six Flags parks. The company has also teased new rides coming to Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Carowinds for 2027, though specific details for those projects have not been revealed.
Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair in 2024, creating a portfolio of more than 50 parks. The combined company installed SeaWorld veteran John Reilly as CEO in December 2025.
