Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting a major overhaul. Starting May 22, 2026, the ride’s story shifts to a new mission featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu, and the gameplay changes are significant.
What’s Changing
The new mission takes guests on a chase tracking down ex-Imperial officers alongside Din Djarin and Grogu. But the biggest updates are to how the ride actually plays:
- Choose your planet: For the first time, guests can select what planets the Millennium Falcon visits during the mission. This means repeat rides can play differently.
- Grogu communication: Engineers now have the ability to communicate directly with Grogu during the mission, adding a new interactive layer to the role.
- New storyline: The entire narrative shifts from the current Hondo Ohnaka smuggling run to a Mandalorian-era pursuit of ex-Imperial officers.
Why This Matters
Smugglers Run has been operating with its original story since Galaxy’s Edge opened in 2019. Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro previously hinted at changes to the ride experience, and this is the biggest update the attraction has received. Adding player choice to the planet destinations introduces real replayability to an attraction that many guests felt became repetitive after a few rides.
The Mandalorian and Grogu overlay also ties the ride into Disney’s most popular active Star Wars franchise, which has its next film releasing in 2026.
When and Where
The updated Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run launches May 22, 2026 at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. Standard theme park admission is required. No word yet on whether Disneyland’s version of the ride will receive the same update.
