Disney just dropped the first real-world footage of the aquatic drones for Disney Cascade of Lights — the new nighttime spectacular debuting March 29 at Disney Adventure World in Disneyland Paris. This is the first time the show’s “ducks” have been seen operating on Adventure Bay lake.
What Is Disney Cascade of Lights?
Disney Cascade of Lights is a 16-minute nighttime show launching March 29, 2026 at Disney Adventure World — the fully reimagined version of the former Walt Disney Studios Park. The show takes place on Adventure Bay, a 3-hectare lake at the center of the park, and combines 379 aerial and aquatic drones with water screen projections, fountains, pyrotechnics, and synchronized lighting.
It is the first show anywhere to synchronize aerial drones and aquatic surface drones in a single live performance — a world first developed over two years in partnership with Dronisos, Disneyland Paris’s official drone technology partner.
The Aquatic Drones: Meet the “Ducks”
The aquatic drones — nicknamed “ducks” by the production team — are flat, platform-style units that operate directly on the water’s surface. Each carries a glowing light sphere and moves across the lake in choreographed patterns, creating dynamic formations at water level while 279 aerial drones fly overhead. The combination creates a three-dimensional canvas: formations in the sky above, light patterns moving across the lake below.
Producer Ben Spalding, who has been developing the show for seven years, described the effect: “The water acts like a mirror that multiplies all our light sources. Our aquatic drones light up the surface of the lake, combined with low-angled lights all around the edges of the lake. And then there are the fountains, each with its own light sources, and the various pyrotechnic effects.”
The Scale of the Production

Each night before the show, a 160-tonne floating structure is moved into position at the center of Adventure Bay using fully electric pusher boats. The structure consists of a 14-square-meter central platform connected to four surrounding barges, each carrying an 18m x 9m water screen for projections. The barge operators undergo specialized training, including navigating the structure past the swing bridge connecting the World of Frozen area.
A team of 24 technicians operates the show every evening — more than double the crew for previous Disneyland Paris nighttime spectaculars like Disney Dreams and Disney Illumination.
The aerial drones were engineered to resist wind up to 36 kph and rain — requirements for outdoor operation over large water screens in European weather. They carry 30 minutes of flight time. The entire show was previewed in 3D before a single live test, with each technical team — drones, pyrotechnics, lighting — developing their plans inside a detailed digital model of the park.
Story and Characters
The show centers on a character called “Inspiration” — a narrative device similar to Peter Pan’s shadow in Disney Dreams — who guides the audience through stories featuring Moana, Mulan, Hercules, Judy Hopps, the Avengers, and Carl Fredricksen. The music was composed by Mark Hammond and recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London by a 90-piece orchestra. An original song, “We Can Be Heroes,” serves as the show’s anthem.
The show is designed to be viewed from anywhere around the lake — 240-plus floodlights and light points are directed at the water, and the sound system covers the full perimeter of Adventure Bay.
Included With Park Admission — Reserved Viewing Available
Disney Cascade of Lights is included with valid entry to Disney Adventure World. A reserved viewing area is available for €24 (approximately $30) per person starting April 7, 2026 — about a week after the show’s public debut. Reservations open through the Disneyland Paris app under “guaranteed access to shows.” Annual Passholders receive preview access ahead of the public launch on March 29.
Opens March 29 Alongside World of Frozen
Disney Cascade of Lights debuts the same night as World of Frozen on Saturday, March 29, 2026 — making the Disney Adventure World grand opening one of the biggest single nights in Disneyland Paris history.
