Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is getting a proper send-off. Disney has announced a four-part finale event arriving this summer on Disney+, Disney Channel, and Disney Channel On Demand, with Selena Gomez stepping behind the camera to direct the premiere episode and reprising her role as Alex Russo in multiple episodes.
What the Final Chapter Is About
The four-part finale follows Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), who is still reeling from losing Alex at the end of Season 2. Billie discovers the only way to rescue her mother is to reunite with her long-lost father. As her family bands together to find Alex, Billie realizes their combined power is the only way the Russos can defeat the evil plaguing them. Production is set to begin the week of April 7, 2026.
Selena Gomez’s Directorial Debut
Selena Gomez, who serves as executive producer on the series, will make her directorial debut with the premiere episode of the final chapter. She will also appear as Alex Russo in multiple episodes of the four-part event. Gomez launched her career on the original Wizards of Waverly Place, which ran from 2007 to 2012 before she became a multiplatinum, Grammy-nominated recording artist and film and TV actress.
The Numbers Behind the Revival
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has delivered strong results for Disney since debuting in October 2024. The series has amassed over 101 million views on Disney Channel YouTube and ranked among the top five titles overall with kids 6-11, teens 12-17, and adults 18-24 in views at launch, per Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings.
Full Cast Returning
The full cast returns for the finale, including David Henrie as Justin Russo, Alkaio Thiele as Roman Russo, Max Matenko as Milo Russo, Taylor Cora as Winter, and Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas executive produce alongside Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Rick Williams, Gomez, and Henrie. The original Wizards of Waverly Place was created by Todd Greenwald.
