Seaworld Orlando’s new family launch coaster, ‘Penguin Trek,’ has been delayed from a spring 2024 opening to a general 2024 timeframe, according to SeaWorld Orlando’s website. This comes as the coaster recently celebrated its track being complete, according to a social media post.
SeaWorld Orlando did not respond when asked for comment about the reclassification.
Penguin Trek was announced in late September as a replacement for Empire of the Penguin, a trackless dark ride that opened in 2013. Empire of the Penguin never reopened after the park closed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This will be the park’s eighth coaster and “embodies the spirit of adventure and exploration, offering an immersive journey through the wonders of Antarctica while further connecting our mission and commitment to our animal care, education, and research,” said Jon Peterson, President of SeaWorld Orlando.
“The ride catapults guests through the Antarctic wilderness at up to 43 mph speeds across a 3,020-foot track,” according to a press release. As (guests) step into the shoes of intrepid researchers, they’ll navigate in a unique snowmobile ride car across the icy expanse, narrowly escaping an ice cave’s clutches. This family-friendly adventure intensifies as they burst onto an outdoor coaster track featuring two exhilarating launches and a maze of twists and turns.”
Penguine Trek will be the park’s fifth coaster manufactured by B&M, tying Six Flags Great Adventure as having the most B&M coasters in one park. This will follow Icebreaker and Pipeline as the third new coaster to open at Seaworld Orlando since 2022.
