Universal Orlando Resort just dropped some of the biggest news about Epic Universe since sharing the official lands. On June 20th, Universal Orlando Resort published a press release detailing more information about Epic Universe’s Dark Universe than fans have ever gotten before.
Dark Universe, a massive land dedicated to the celebration of the gruesome and macabre monsters that have starred in Universal’s most iconic monster films, is a tonally dissonant land from all of the others that will be unveiled with the opening of Epic Universe in 2025. Dark, scary, and decaying, Dark Universe brings the world of Universal’s Classic Monsters to life. With some of Universal’s first and most iconic films being centered around the strange and mysterious – dating all the way back to The Hunchback of Notre Dame, released in 1913 and arguably the first Monster Movie ever produced – it’s no surprise that Epic Universe has chosen to honor the films studio’s legacy of monsters and mayhem with this exciting land more experimental than Frankenstein’s Monster. Guests will feel the vile energy of Darkmoor wash over them from the moment they step through the Dark Universe portal that will transport them to this strange and mysterious town full of monsters, creatures, and freaks.
Universal Orlando Resort has officially announced two thrilling attractions that will headline the darkest section of the new park. Dark Universe’s marquee attraction, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, will have guests deep into the dark manor where Victoria Frankenstein has unveiled her most horrible act yet, in an experiment gone horrible wrong that will have monsters of all shapes and sizes chasing guests through the dank and dim catacombs of the manor. Despite Victoria Frankenstein’s dark genius, her control over the monsters of Darkmoor is no match for Dracula, and there will be no stopping his horse of creatures like The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the demonic Brides of Dracula.
Curse of the Werewolf, a spinning family coaster that sits on the outskirts of Darkmoor, will welcome guests into The Guild of Mystics as they discover that they are the unfortunate bearers of the mark of the werewolf. Guests will have to race through the forest to escape the werewolves and their eternal lunar curse.
In addition to the two main attractions of Dark Universe, Epic Universe will also be offering some terrifying experiences throughout Darkmoor, including the Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience, where guests can be transformed into their favorite monsters, freaks, and creatures with face paint and temporary tattoos. With skilled artists enabling these terrible transformations, guests will be able to scare even the most stoic of friends and family.
Darkmoor will also be home to an all-new Universal Monsters meet and greet. Meet monsters of all shapes and sizes ranging from Victoria Frankenstein’s monster to the Brides of Dracula themselves, these monsters are ready to eat– I mean, MEET you at the Meet the Monsters attraction in Dark Universe.
In addition to these exciting new attractions, Universal has also announced several new food locations that will be located within Dark Universe, from Das Stakehause – a dining hall that details the monstrous history of Darkmoor – to The Burning Blade Tavern set within the iconic burning windmill from the original 1935 Frankenstein produced by Universal Pictures, there will be food options for every monster that stalks the streets of Darkmoor. Guests will also be able to visit De Lacey’s Cottage, a snack stall fashioned after the original location where Frankenstein’s Monster experiences care and friendship, with scary good snacks like cinnamon bread, ice cream, and a beloved snack food that was once a Halloween Horror Nights exclusive: the famed Twisted Tater.
With so many incredible offerings coming to Epic Universe, it’s hard to wait for the new park to open – but with Universal planning to debut the park in 2025, guests and fans alike have plenty to look forward to as Universal Orlando Resort continues to unveil new information about these exciting new lands in the coming months. No matter what your favorite monster movie is, fans can all agree that Darkmoor and Dark Universe is going to be a stand-out land in an already stellar new park.
Theme Park Shark will continue to bring you all the most thrilling news about Epic Universe, so keep an eye (or two, or ten!) out for more information as we get closer to the official opening of this amazing new park!
