The Disney Treasure is on its way home!
At the end of last month, the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet started its transatlantic journey from Eemshaven, Netherlands to its new home in Port Canaveral, Florida, where the ship will have its inaugural launch planned for the end of this year, on December 21st. A 4,500 mile journey, the trip was expected to take two weeks to make, with nothing but open ocean in between the Disney Treasure and its final destination.
As it makes this first – and perhaps, most important – journey, the Disney Treasure will be taking the opportunity to make several final checks of its systems. Maritime traditions and protocols are rich and varied, but perhaps none quite so loud and noticeable as the way that ship horns are used to send signals and communicate with other vessels.
In classic Disney fashion, the horn on the Disney Treasure has been tested out in only the most whimsical of ways, blaring out Disney Classics in surprisingly melodic tunes; the horn sounds themselves were chosen to convey the tales that are told aboard the Treasure, and the very spirit of adventure that the ship represents.
As guests finally board this historic new ship this December and beyond, they will be treated to performances of classic Disney Park songs like Grim Grinning Ghosts from Disney’s The Haunted Mansion attraction, as well as songs from Disney film classics like Remember Me from Pixar’s Coco, in tribute to the ship’s themed restaurant, Plaza de Coco.
Other songs, like A Whole New World from the Disney classic Aladdin will be heard aboard the ship as well, and special holiday compositions will arrive just in time for this year’s holiday season. With these and a myriad of other classic Disney songs to be performed by the ship’s horns, the Disney Treasure is sure to be a musical delight. Disney Cruise Line states in its latest Instagram post regarding the ship’s horns that a total of seven new arrangements of classic, beloved Disney songs have been tested on the transatlantic trip.
For anyone who is a fan of the classic Disney music that defined countless childhoods, or for anyone who has never heard a ship’s horns perform a harmony before, Disney Cruise Lines has posted an example of the ship performing its rendition of A Whole New World on its Instagram [here] for fans to marvel at. Surprisingly melodic and entirely recognizable despite sounding – as one might expect – like a ship horn, this little attention to detail will be sure to delight guests boarding the Disney Treasure, and must be something remarkable to hear played in person.
