Over the past few months, Theme Park Shark has covered all of the announcements coming out of Universal’s newest venture in Las Vegas – a year-round horror experience designed by the Halloween Horror Nights team responsible for all of our favorite shrieks and screams here in Orlando, Florida. Universal has previously announced details about its four premier scare mazes that will be part of the inaugural lineup at Horror Unleashed, including Scarecrow: The Reaping, which won the House of the Year award in Orlando in 2017, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which has a long and illustrious history at Halloween Horror Nights, and the new details on the third house slated for this exciting year-round experience, Exorcist: Believer. Now, Universal has released further details about the final inaugural house at Horror Unleashed. Horror comes home in Las Vegas with Universal Monsters.
Universal made its name with Monsters in the early 1900s, with classic titles that defined the very genre of “Monster Movies” with famous films like Frankenstein or Dracula, both released in 1931. In fact, The Phantom of the Opera celebrates its 100th anniversary this year on September 6th, 2025 – the day that it premiered at the Astor Theater in New York.
Since then, Universal has never really lost sight of its roots. Over the last few decades at their world-class theme parks, the Monsters have had a strong presence at the park – from the days of the Monsters Cafe at Universal Studios Florida to the newly opened Dark Universe at Epic Universe, the monsters of Universal’s original films have always made a home at the parks, and none more than the monsters that have always prowled the streets during Halloween Horror Nights.
In 2019, Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights team launched a new brand of houses that aimed to celebrate the original Universal Monsters and immerse guests into the worlds of Dr. Frankenstein, Count Dracula, and countless other Universal Classic Monsters in the most terrifying way possible.
The original house in the Universal Monsters series, which featured intense scares and elaborate sets, saw guests come face to face with the likes of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Mummy, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as well as horrifying supporting characters like Dracula’s Brides, the Bride of Frankenstein, and several monster hunters that tried desperately to get the situation under control as monsters of all shapes and sizes ran rampant in this landmark house.
Now, Universal has released further details since its previous announcement that Universal Monsters would be joining the inaugural lineup at their newest horror venture, Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas, a year-round Halloween Horror Nights experience that aims to bring the scares to more people than ever before.
Universal released on their social media accounts earlier today further details about this fan-favorite house. With 2019’s Halloween Horror Nights (HHN29) being a particularly strong year featuring the impetus for a beloved HHN franchise, it’s hardly surprising that the original Universal Monsters house was chosen as one of the four houses to be featured at the opening of Horror Unleashed – and with Dark Universe having recently opened at the new theme park in Orlando, the choice makes even more sense. It’s all about synergy, and Universal has been killing it with their Monsters branding!
But from dozens of Halloween Horror Nights houses, only four could be featured at the grand opening of this location, and synergy alone wasn’t enough to make the cut. This house is good. Exceptional, even! One of the most iconic houses of recent Halloween Horror Nights history, Universal Monsters (2019) was not only a testament to the history of Universal’s film studio and their involvement in bringing our nightmares to life since day one, but a truly remarkable horror experience for those who were lucky enough to experience this house first-hand. This house has earned its spot in this groundbreaking horror experience.
