The official announcement has finally been made for FNAF! Of course, fans were given a heads up earlier in the season about the potential for Five Nights at Freddy’s to be featured in this year’s Halloween Horror Nights event, but Universal has held the details close to their chest until recently.
While not outright stating that a Five Nights at Freddy’s house was in the works, many fans made the assumption early on that the ‘experience’ referenced by Universal’s creative team would in fact be a fully-fledged haunted house.
This original announcement, which debuted across HHN’s social media on July 1st, kicked off the HHN announcement season as the first IP to be confirmed for this year’s event. Theme Park Shark previously covered this announcement, though there was very little to discuss at the time as Universal kept the full extent of their plans under wraps.
Now, with the full FNAF house announcement being released – including a new entry in the series of video trailers released for this year’s IP houses – the floodgates have finally opened. Five Nights at Freddy’s will be featured as a fully-fledged house at both Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood for HHN34.
You wouldn’t last one night at Freddy’s, let alone five. You’re about to be hunted by deadly animatronics Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy as you flee through creepy, abandoned hallways.
Based on the 2023 Blumhouse film, Five Nights at Freddy’s has been a hot topic in the Halloween Horror Nights spheres since their first appearance in Hollywood during an exhibition showcasing the screen-used puppets designed by the Jim Henson Company (of The Muppets fame!), sparking guest interest in the IP as a fully-fledged FNAF house.
This comes at the perfect time, as the trailer for the movie’s sequel recently made waves, as well as the newest entry in the FNAF video game franchise, Secret of the Mimic, hitting the gaming sphere in mid-June. Recent games, which have evolved into something nearly unrecognizable from the original 2D point and click game that debuted in 2014, have taken on an almost larger-than-life reputation within gaming culture.
While the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie tells a story separate from the lore of the games, it too has taken on a life of its own as a popular cross-media entry, racking up almost 300 million worldwide.
