Universal Studios Hollywood has officially announced that Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, the highly anticipated new roller coaster, will open this summer.
The announcement came via a television commercial featuring Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel on Thursday, February 5, 2026. The summer launch window means thrill seekers can expect to climb aboard the new coaster sometime after June 21.
A First-of-Its-Kind Experience
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will feature 360-degree rotating ride vehicles and a state-of-the-art ride system with first-of-its-kind innovations and technological achievements, according to Universal.
The coaster will launch riders from 0 to 72 mph along its 4,100-foot-long track, making it the first high-speed outdoor coaster at Universal Studios Hollywood. The park’s two existing coasters include the 2004 Revenge of the Mummy indoor coaster and the 2016 Flight of the Hippogriff kiddie coaster.
Testing Has Been Underway
Universal began conducting on-track launch tests back in October, with ride vehicles wrapped in hypnotic geometric black-and-white ‘dazzle camouflage’ — the same technique automakers use to hide prototype vehicle details during real-world testing.
The Tokyo Drift Connection
The ‘Hollywood Drift’ name references the 2006 Universal Pictures film ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.’ Drift racing involves intentionally oversteering to the point of losing traction while maintaining control of the car — exactly the kind of high-octane action riders can expect on this new coaster.
Riders will enter through a red brick auto repair garage before boarding coaster vehicles themed to look like authentic Fast & Furious film cars.
An official opening date will be announced soon by Universal officials.
