Mojang Studios and Merlin Entertainments announced Minecraft World, the first fully immersive Minecraft theme park land, during Minecraft LIVE 2026 on Saturday, March 21. The land will open in 2027 at Chessington World of Adventures in Greater London.
The project represents a 50 million pound (approximately $70 million) investment and will feature new Minecraft-themed attractions including a world-first coaster, interactive adventures, block-built playscapes, and themed retail and dining. Merlin Entertainments, the world’s second-largest theme park operator behind Disney, runs Chessington along with Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, and the LEGOLAND parks.
What Is Minecraft World?
Minecraft World is a dedicated theme park land inspired by the best-selling video game of all time. The land will bring Minecraft’s most iconic biomes, mobs, and items into the physical world for the first time at a major theme park. Merlin and Mojang have worked together to ensure every ride, attraction, and piece of theming feels authentically Minecraft.
A selection of iconic Minecraft content creators are also consulting on the project to help bring the universe to life in a way that resonates with the game’s global community.
What Attractions Will Minecraft World Have?
Merlin confirmed that Minecraft World will include a world-first Minecraft coaster, interactive adventures, and block-built playscapes. Themed retail and dining will also be part of the land. Specific ride names and details have not been announced yet. Construction is already underway at Chessington, with foundation work and a large show building visible on site.
Where Is Chessington World of Adventures?
Chessington World of Adventures is located in Greater London, approximately 35 minutes by direct train from London Waterloo. The park is one of the UK’s largest theme parks and also features a zoo and resort hotel. Merlin recently opened a Jumanji-themed land at Chessington in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
When Does Minecraft World Open?
Minecraft World is scheduled to open in 2027 at Chessington World of Adventures. A specific opening date has not been announced. Merlin’s broader partnership with Mojang also includes plans for a US location and global expansion, though details on additional locations have not been confirmed.
What Else Was Announced at Minecraft LIVE 2026?
Minecraft LIVE 2026 also featured several other announcements beyond the theme park reveal. Minecraft Dungeons II, the next chapter of the action RPG series, was announced for fall 2026 on Xbox, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The game will be included with Xbox Game Pass.
Two new game drops for Minecraft were also revealed: Tiny Takeover arrives on March 24 with redesigned baby mobs and new items, and Chaos Cubed is coming later in 2026 with sulfur caves and a new mob that can absorb blocks. The full Minecraft LIVE show is available on demand on YouTube.
