Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan is turning five, and Universal is going all out to celebrate. The 5th anniversary event runs from March 18, 2026, through January 11, 2027, bringing new experiences, special decorations, character appearances, and limited-edition merchandise to the land.
What’s Coming for the Anniversary
The entrance to Super Nintendo World will get a festive makeover for the celebration, highlighted by a giant Super Star-themed anniversary cake welcoming guests into the land. Inside, a Super Star scavenger hunt will give visitors something new to explore as they make their way through the area.
Fan-favorite characters Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad will all return for special interactions during the anniversary event. Yoshi will also make exclusive appearances specifically for the celebration. Guests with a Power-Up Band may even unlock a special greeting during their visit.
Limited-edition food and merchandise are also part of the plan, though Universal has not shared specific details on those items yet.
Five Years of Super Nintendo World
Super Nintendo World originally opened at Universal Studios Japan on March 18, 2021, becoming the first Nintendo-themed land at any theme park in the world. Since then, the concept has expanded to Universal’s upcoming Epic Universe in Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood.
The land features Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, Yoshi’s Adventure, interactive Power-Up Bands, and an immersive environment that brings the Mushroom Kingdom to life. It quickly became one of the most popular areas at Universal Studios Japan and set the standard for what Nintendo-themed entertainment could look like in a theme park setting.
Planning a Visit
The 5th anniversary celebration runs for nearly 10 months, giving plenty of time for fans to experience the festivities. If you are more focused on the U.S. parks, check out our coverage of Universal Fan Fest Nights 2026 and the Colorful Yoshis coming to Super Nintendo World at Hollywood.
