The Emperor’s New Groove is now streaming on Disney+, and Disney Animation is celebrating the 2000 animated classic’s arrival on the platform.
The official @disneyanimation Instagram account shared a reel promoting the film’s availability, captioned with the fun reference: “Squeak squeaker squeakin'” – a nod to the movie’s memorable running gags and comedic moments.
About The Emperor’s New Groove
The Emperor’s New Groove was released by Walt Disney Animation Studios in December 2000. The film follows Kuzco, a self-centered Incan emperor who is transformed into a llama by his scheming advisor Yzma. Stranded in the jungle, Kuzco must rely on a good-natured peasant named Pacha to help him return to his palace and reclaim his throne.
The film is known for its irreverent, comedic tone and broke with Disney’s more traditional fairy tale formula of the era. It features an ensemble of memorable characters including the bumbling Kronk, voiced by Patrick Warburton, and the villainous Yzma, voiced by Eartha Kitt.
The Emperor’s New Groove went on to spawn a direct-to-video sequel, Kronk’s New Groove (2005), and an animated television series, The Emperor’s New School, which aired on Disney Channel from 2006 to 2008.
The film is now available to stream on Disney+ in the U.S.
