Walt Disney Studios confirmed today that Lilo and Stitch 2 is headed to theaters on May 26, 2028.
The announcement came from the official Disney Studios Twitter account on March 18, 2026, with the message: “Our ‘ohana is back. #LiloandStitch2 is coming to theaters May 26, 2028!”
This is a direct sequel to the 2025 live-action Lilo and Stitch film. The live-action version was a major box office success, and a follow-up was widely anticipated. Now it is confirmed, with a summer 2028 release date locked in.
For theme park fans, Stitch has a well-established presence across Disney parks. At both Disneyland in California and Magic Kingdom in Florida, Stitch appears for character meet-and-greets, giving guests the chance to snap photos with the beloved alien experiment. The character has been a park staple for years.
Long-time Disney park fans will also remember Stitch’s Great Escape at Magic Kingdom, which operated for years before closing permanently in 2018. The attraction, located in Tomorrowland, never found the same footing as other park experiences but cemented Stitch’s history in Florida.
With a sequel now confirmed, it will be worth watching whether Disney Parks uses the 2028 release as an opportunity to expand or refresh Stitch’s park presence. New live-action films have historically prompted updates to park offerings, from character costumes to merchandise and sometimes new experiences.
No cast announcements or plot details have been shared yet. The studio kept the announcement simple and focused on the date.
May 26, 2028 is Memorial Day weekend, a prime theatrical window that signals Disney has high expectations for this one.
I will keep tracking this as details come in.
