Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras 2026 Tribute Store is a “best of” celebration pulled from nearly 20 previous Tribute Store builds, combining fan-favorite elements with ideas that never made it into past stores. The store takes guests on a journey from a dive bar through surreal New Orleans streets into a blacklight cemetery, all driven by the feeling of live music.

“The idea for this one was a visual representation of how the music of New Orleans and Mardi Gras makes you feel,” says Greg Duffy, assistant manager of visual merchandise at Universal Orlando, who has worked on nearly 20 Tribute Stores since 2021.

What Is Inside the Mardi Gras 2026 Tribute Store?

The Mardi Gras 2026 Tribute Store at Universal Orlando is divided into themed sections that progress from a roadhouse dive bar through the streets of New Orleans into a Louisiana cemetery, each designed to represent how Mardi Gras music “grabs you and pulls you” through the experience.

The entrance features Baron Tonton, the recurring mischievous spirit of Universal’s Mardi Gras events, mounted above the façade. Guests enter “Tonton’s Roadhouse” through a giant purple skull into a dive bar scene complete with shot glasses, a billiards table, and walls covered in event flyers and advertisements.

How Many Easter Eggs Are Hidden in the Tribute Store?

Adam Hostetler, assistant concept designer on the visual merchandise team, created over 25 different bottle labels and roughly 20 to 30 poster designs for the dive bar section alone. Many reference past Universal attractions and experiences, both current and retired.

Hostetler, known as the “Easter egg guy” on his team, highlights a few standouts: “Captain Jake’s Spicy Rum” features a hand-drawn character alongside Bruce the Shark as a homage to vintage Universal cartoons. The “Earl Lort” non-alcoholic acorn liqueur bottle has gotten some of the biggest reactions from guests.

“I try my hardest to pay attention to the social channels as well as seeing how guests interact with the parks,” Hostetler says. “I’m a fan of the parks, so I try to make sure we can keep some of that alive.”

What Can You Buy at the Mardi Gras Tribute Store?

The Mardi Gras 2026 Tribute Store offers themed merchandise woven into the experience, including purchasable shot glasses from the bar display and adoptable beignet plush toys from a kitchen scene. A stage area features the sounds of blues guitar from an “in-house band” that has just stepped away.

The kitchen area is full of interactive details, including a fridge that visitors are encouraged to open. “Pro tip: You may want to open the fridge,” Duffy advises.

What Is the House of Tonton?

The House of Tonton is a bayou shack section in the back half of the Tribute Store filled with mystical items and blacklight effects, leading into an above-ground Louisiana cemetery scene with animated characters. The surreal environment represents how music transforms ordinary spaces.

“We call the shack ‘the House of Tonton,'” Duffy explains. “It’s kind of a little bayou shack full of all sorts of mystical accoutrement. And then you step into a part of an aboveground cemetery, and you see a little fun, surrealist, animated version of Baron Tonton and his buddies dancing in the graveyard.”

Hidden among the cemetery props are dozens of tiny crawdads placed throughout the scene. “There’s a little statue of an angel in the cemetery with her hands out. I just put two crawdads in her hands, and it immediately became one of our favorite props in the store because it is just very silly,” Duffy says.

Is the Tribute Store an Attraction or a Gift Shop?

Universal Orlando’s design team considers the Tribute Store an experience first and a retail space second, with the goal of changing guest expectations before they even start shopping. According to Duffy, getting the immersive theming right transforms the entire mindset of guests entering the store.

“The Tribute Store is unique in that it is an experience first,” Duffy says. “And if you do it right, not only does it become almost more of an attraction, but it kind of changes the mindset of the guests going in.”

Hostetler adds that humor is central to the design philosophy: “We love the jokes and the puns. I’ve found that they resonate with more people: if you make something a little bit funny, it really evolves the space. I love when people walk through, even during the creepiest of stores, and have a little bit of a laugh.”
