Six Flags Great America opens for the 2026 season on April 25. The park is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, with a dedicated summer-long celebration running June 20 through August 9.
“Opening day is always exciting, but kicking off our 50th anniversary season makes this year truly special,” said Hardeep Lall, park manager of Six Flags Great America. “For decades, Six Flags Great America has been a place where families, friends and communities come together.”

What Is Included in the 50th Anniversary Celebration?
The 50th Anniversary Celebration begins June 20 and features several new offerings. The park is launching what it calls its most ambitious nighttime entertainment experience, with a high-energy stage show and parade featuring brand-new floats each night of the event.
A drone show will light up the sky Friday through Sunday nights during the celebration, honoring the park’s 50-year history.
Guests can also visit a new Legacy Museum located in Emporium, featuring artifacts, archival photography, retired signage, and memorabilia from park employees and fans spanning every decade since the park opened.
Additional offerings include an anniversary brick program, exclusive 50th anniversary merchandise, and specialty food and beverage items inspired by the park’s history.

What Is the History of Six Flags Great America?
The park first opened as Marriott’s Great America in 1976. The 300-acre property sits between Chicago and Milwaukee and has grown into one of the Midwest’s largest theme parks, with 17 roller coasters. Its newest coaster, Wrath of Rakshasa, holds records as the steepest and most inverted dive coaster in the world.

Is There a Ticket Deal for the 2026 Season?
Six Flags Great America is running a Spring Sale through April 26 where guests can purchase a 2026 Gold Pass for the price of a Silver Pass. The Gold Pass includes access to all parks in the region, including Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Canada’s Wonderland.
