The Walt Disney Company has a long and illustrious history in California, from the opening of its very first theme park at Disneyland to the historic films that the company has produced over the last century, so much of Disney’s history is rooted in Los Angeles, to the point where the company considers itself intrinsically tied to the region.
In the wake of the fires that have devastated great swaths of not only California land, but the communities as well, The Walt Disney Company is committing fifteen million dollars to Los Angeles fire relief and rebuilding efforts, as aid to the neighbors and community that have been home to the Walt Disney Company for decades.
Services like the American Red Cross, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank will benefit directly from Disney’s contribution, as the entertainment company plans to work directly with and support these organizations, among many others. While contributing to the community as a whole, The Walt Disney Company is also committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its employees, many of whom have faced difficult circumstances as a result of the recent bout of California wildfires. Disney has stated that it will “provide further resources” to its Employee Relief Fund to assist those facing hardships as a result of the disaster.
“As this tragedy continues to unfold, The Walt Disney Company is committed to supporting our community and our employees as we all work together to recover and rebuild from this unbelievable devastation,” said Bob Iger, CEO, The Walt Disney Company. “Walt Disney came to Los Angeles with little more than his limitless imagination, and it was here that he chose to make his home, pursue his dreams, and create extraordinary storytelling that means so much to so many people around the world. We are proud to provide assistance to this resilient and vibrant community in this moment of need.”
The Walt Disney Company has also stated its intention to work with the business community to support rebuilding efforts in the region. While the details of this partnership are not yet known, it will undoubtedly prove to be paramount in the rebuilding efforts once the crisis has passed and damage can be properly assessed.
The Walt Disney Company also released this message, as part of a press release late last week:
“We want to express our overwhelming gratitude to the heroic firefighters and first responders from across the area and around the country whose unbelievable courage and professionalism have been a source of tremendous encouragement and pride this week. Likewise, we are grateful for the outstanding local reporters at KABC and elsewhere who have been a vital resource to all.
“While the fires continue to rage and the full extent of the damage won’t be understood for some time, our hearts are with everyone across Southern California who has been affected by the destructive fires, and we urge residents to remain vigilant and follow safety guidance from local officials. This community’s strength is rooted in its people, and we are proud to be a part of it and offer our support.”
Theme Park Shark will continue to cover The Walt Disney Company’s involvement in relief and rebuilding efforts as more details are released, and sincerely wishes safety and peace for all Californians and their loved ones during this tumultuous time.
