Hocus Pocus is playing outdoors in Salem this month, and it won’t cost anything to watch. D23 and Creative Collective Salem are showing the 1993 film at Old Town Hall on Thursday, September 24, presented by Huluween on Disney+.
No registration is required, and the screening is open to the public. Viewing space is first-come, first-served, and guests are welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets.
What time does the Hocus Pocus screening start?
The movie begins as soon as it gets dark, roughly 8:15 to 8:30 p.m. Before that, the Old Town Hall Food Court is open, an indoor marketplace with local and regional vendors serving sweet and savory plates, seasonal specialties and Halloween treats. It stays open right up to showtime.
Two photo ops are set up, one outside Old Town Hall and one inside. D23 wants your best witchy pose tagged @DisneyD23 with #D23Events. The film is rated PG.
Old Town Hall sits at 32 Derby Square, Salem, MA 01970. The evening is part of Salem’s 400th anniversary year, and D23 is promising that “you never know what or who will rise for the occasion.”
What else is happening in Salem this Halloween?
A downtown circuit of curated makers, local businesses, food and seasonal experiences runs through Salem, presented by Creative Collective. It’s the same organization behind the screening, so the movie night lands in the middle of an already busy stretch of downtown.
On the streaming side, Huluween on Disney+ is back for bundle subscribers with a seasonal lineup built around originals and classics. Season two of Vampirina: Teenage Vampire, the new series Coven Academy and FX’s American Horror Story: 13 are all part of it, alongside films like Soulm8te and Hokum. The Halloween Collection on Disney+ adds a curated assortment of additional movies, series and specials for the season, while the Huluween lineup leans on classic films like Hocus Pocus and Edward Scissorhands.
Salem in late September is not a quiet place, and this one is free with no ticket to manage. That combination is rare enough to plan around.
Shark Take: The food court closes at showtime, so eating is a pre-movie move, not a mid-film snack run. Since seating is claimed in the order people show up, the food court doubles as the reason to get there well before dark.
