Imagineers are putting a DJ in the backyard. Starting Friday, September 25, Alien Swirling Saucers at Disney’s Hollywood Studios gets an all-new soundtrack called Alien Swirling Saucers: Lilypad’s Jams, led by Lilypad, the frog-shaped smart tablet from Toy Story 5.

Lilypad is a spirited toy on a mission to connect friends, and she uses her tech to do it, hooking up to the internet to remix and mashup tunes from different styles and genres. She’s joining Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear out in the backyard. To record the music, Imagineers went to Nashville and worked with world-class musicians across pop, country, EDM and alt-rock.
Which Toy Story songs are in Lilypad’s Jams?
The playlist mixes reimagined Toy Story classics with originals written just for this attraction. On the classics side, “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “We Belong Together,” and “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away” all get a new swirling energy built for the ride. The new songs include “Spin It Back, Lilypad,” a tribute to the newest toy in the backyard, and the “deep crust cut” Disney is calling “Pizza Planet Promo,” the in-story theme song of the pizza arcade.
“We wanted to think about the music in a completely new way, taking beloved songs from the Toy Story films, and create catchy new original songs, that are singable, sincere and a little cheesy, as one is about Pizza Planet,” said Thomas Niederhiser, Senior Creative Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering.
Do you have to ride Alien Swirling Saucers to hear it?
No. Lilypad is DJing for every honorary toy in Toy Story Land, whether or not you climb into a saucer. Offboard, DJ Lily hypes and introduces tracks from her playlist and fills the space between tunes. Guests can guess which toy she’s doodling on her drawing app, help her unscramble puzzles, and watch “home videos” she’s recorded of Toy Story pals.
Favorites like Partysaurus Rex should get more playtime on the playlist, too.
“Collaborating with our partners at Pixar Animation Studios to write for these characters and expand their stories is just pure joy,” said Geoff Line, Senior Story Lead at Walt Disney Imagineering. “We played with these toys as kids. Now we get to play with them as Imagineers. It doesn’t get better than that.”
Toy Story has been connecting with audiences since the first film debuted in 1995, and Toy Story 5 is bringing in a new wave of fans now. Lilypad’s park debut lands two days after the film starts streaming on Disney+ on September 23, so you can meet her before you hear her spin at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Shark Take
Watch Toy Story 5 on Disney+ September 23, then plan your Toy Story Land stop for opening weekend of the new soundtrack. The offboard show means the music is worth a stop even if the standby line for Alien Swirling Saucers is long.
