Pixar’s Hoppers opened to $46 million domestically this weekend, making it the best opening for a Pixar original film since Coco in 2017. Globally, the film pulled in $88 million, including $42 million from 40 international territories.
Disney Co-Chairman Alan Bergman called it “a fantastic original film from the incredible team at Pixar,” adding that it was “wonderful to see audiences coming out with their friends and families to enjoy it together.” Bergman credited director Daniel Chong, producer Nicole Paradis Grindle, and Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter for the launch.
The numbers are a significant rebound for Pixar originals. Between Coco and Hoppers, roughly 19 original animated films were released theatrically, and none matched this kind of opening. DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot previously held the best opening weekend for an original animated film in that stretch. Hoppers cleared it comfortably.
Audience reception has been strong. The film earned an A CinemaScore and a 75% definite recommend on PostTrak. Kids under 12 gave it 90% positive scores. Premium formats and IMAX together drove 35% of the weekend gross, and 3D accounted for 10%. The film played well across all market sizes, from rural areas to major cities.
One standout detail for Disney Parks fans: the AMC Dine-In at Disney Springs in Florida was the film’s top-grossing theater location through Saturday, pulling in roughly $88,000.
Hoppers’ opening helped push the overall domestic box office to $98 million for the weekend, a 76% increase over the same frame last year. For Pixar, which went through a rough stretch with theatrical originals like Elemental ($29.6 million opening) and Elio ($20.8 million opening), this is a clear turning point.
The film’s park tie-ins are already live at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, including character meet-and-greets, themed food offerings, and interactive experiences. With strong word of mouth and family-friendly appeal, Hoppers looks positioned for solid legs through the spring.
