Get Ready to Rock! Blue Man Group Returns to Orlando, Florida

In 2006, Universal Orlando Resort introduced Central Florida to a band of a different color. Housed in the Sharp Aquos Theater located on CityWalk, Blue Man Group took Orlando by storm with their colorful and energetic performances. The band’s performed almost every night at Universal Orlando Resort, with over 6,000 shows being performed at the Universal property over their 14-year residency. Blue Man Group shows are “euphoric celebrations of human connection through art, music, comedy and non-verbal communication,” according to the musical group, and their shows had been well known throughout Orlando as an unbelievably good time, attracting hundreds of thousands of guests over the duration of their residency.

As with many things, however, their successful run came to an end with the 2020 pandemic, which shut down operations at major entertainment venues across the world, including both the Blue Man Group show on CityWalk, and Universal Orlando Resort as a whole.

After a three-year hiatus, Blue Man Group has announced their return to Orlando soil – only this time, the iconic partnership between Blue Man Group and Universal Orlando Resort, that made the group an entertainment staple in the Orlando theme park for over a decade, will be with an entertainment competitor in the heart of Orlando.

ICON Park, located on International Drive, is a collection of attractions and impressive (and often notorious) amusement park rides that opened in 2015. Consisting most notably of the Orlando Eye, Madame Toussade’s Orlando, and the Orlando Aquarium, as well as being infamous for the tragic death of an eight grader in 2022 and the announcement of a shooting game optional to the Orlando Eye experience, ICON Park has had a spotted history to say the least.

However, in a move that will breathe new life into a beloved Orlando show, ICON Park is planning to open a brand new 580-person theater on its property that will be the new home for the iconic Blue Man Group band. While this theater is just over half the capacity of the groups previous home at Universal Orlando Resort, Blue Man Group has stated that this new theater is being “specifically designed to accommodate Blue Man Group’s multi-sensory performance.”

ICON Park, sitting at the intersection of International Drive and Universal Boulevard, aims to be the crown jewel in Orlando’s bustling entertainment district, and plans to continue growing their property with exceptional live entertainment, shopping, and dining experiences that will bring a lively party atmosphere to Orlando’s entertainment options.

“ICON Park will roll out the blue carpet to welcome Blue Man Group back into our ‘unbelievably real’ destination,” said ICON Park President and CEO Chris Jaskiewicz. “With their unique blend of creative energy and entertainment, they are a perfect fit with the world-famous entertainment brands here at ICON Park, and we look forward to the Blue Men becoming ambassadors for our entire destination.”

While hard details on the opening date of the new Blue Man Group theater and information on ticket sales has yet to be revealed, the group has announced that their target goal is to open late this year, with performances hopefully starting in December of 2024.

Theme Park Shark will continue to report on any changes or new information in the plans to bring the Blue Man Group back to its Orlando home, with more information on ticket sales and additional news coming!

Her favorite stories have always been about magic and far-off adventures, and growing up in Orlando, Florida allowed her to experience those adventures in real life. As an adult, she graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2023 with a degree in Literature while working in the Education Industry. Her inner child, however, still has a deep love for fairies, dragons, magic, and adventure. When not writing her next big adventure, she enjoys drawing, puzzle platformers, theme parks, and fast roller coasters.
