Back in September, Theme Park Shark reported on the announcement that the UNIVRS store at Universal Studios Florida would be receiving a magical transformation in celebration of the upcoming theatrical adaptation of one of Broadway’s most beloved plays, Wicked.
Featuring new merchandise from the upcoming movie, photo ops, and experiences tailored for old fans of the original Broadway play and new fans of the film alike, this new storefront at the corner of Illuminations Boulevard and Hollywood was announced to be opening in late October ahead of the Jon M. Chu film set in the wonderful world of Oz. With October coming and going, Universal has now announced that the timeline for opening this new experience has shifted.
Universal took to social media earlier this week to address confused and curious fans eager to experience this new store and all the magic it has to offer! While information is limited and Universal Orlando is unable to share any in-depth details about the opening of this new experience within its flagship park, they have mentioned that details will be incoming soon!
“Our timeline for the opening of Wicked: The Experience has shifted and will now debut in November,” Universal has assured fans via their twitter account, “[a]n official opening date will be shared soon.”
The film adaptation of Wicked will feature two parts, the first of which is slated to debut in theaters nationwide on November 22nd. While it is unclear if Wicked: The Experience will open at Universal Studios Florida ahead of the movie or shortly afterwards, the new experience hitting Universal is sure to be magical; for more information on what we can expect once the new store opens, check out Theme Park Shark’s previous coverage on the announcement of this unique new store back in September:
Fans from all walks of life are eager to get inside this brand new experience at Universal Studios Florida. Whether they be fans of the original Wicked book, the Broadway musical, or the highly-anticipated film set to defy gravity this year, Wicked – in all its forms – has played a pivotal part in the cultural landscape of film and theater. And considering that Wicked (2024) is a movie that is based on a play (Wicked, 2003) that is based on a book (Wicked, 1995) that is based on a movie (The Wizard of Oz, 1939) that is based on a book (The Wizard of Oz, 1900), that’s pretty impressive.
That’s over 120 years of Oz, from front to back! So, really, looking at it that way, what’s a few more days, really? Especially for an experience that promises to be well and truly wicked!
In the meantime, Universal encourages fans to subscribe to their social media and check official website updates for more information on the opening date, which Theme Park Shark will report on once announced! Stay tuned!
