Universal Studios Florida has announced the permanent closure of one of its most recognizable thrill rides, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. The high-speed coaster, which opened in 2009, will close to guests on August 18, 2025 to make way for a new and currently undisclosed attraction. Originally planned to close in September, the closure date was recently moved up, shaving a month off of the remainder of the ride’s life expectancy, as per Universal Orlando Resort’s official attraction information page. While reception of this coaster was mixed among fans, Universal has given it a high-octane send off with farewell merchandise designed to commemorate such a long-standing attraction.
The Rip Ride Rock’d It shirt was such a popular hit among parkgoers that it allegedly sold out on its first day, with restocks being sporadic and demand often clearing shelves of the item.

Rip Ride Rockit: A Landmark Attraction
For over 15 years, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has been a signature element of the Universal skyline. Known for its 167-foot vertical lift, top speeds of 65 mph, and unique on-board audio system that allowed riders to select their own soundtrack, the ride offered a high-adrenaline experience unlike any other in the park. Guests could choose from a curated playlist spanning rock, pop, hip-hop, and electronic music, making each ride a personalized adventure.
One special feature of this ride beloved amongst fans was the “secret” menu of additional songs, which required knowledge of number codes to choose your desired song.

Preparing For A New Future
While Universal Orlando Resort has yet to officially confirm what will replace the roller coaster, the theme park giant is already planning what will replace this landmark attraction in the future. While no information is yet available regarding what might be taking the place of this ride, guests are already mourning the loss of the iconic attraction that brought life to the Music Stage Plaza aesthetic and Halloween Horror Nights queues that run underneath the attraction’s daring dips and drops.
Theme Park Shark will report back as soon as Universal has released information regarding the future of this coveted and iconic attraction location.

A Fond Farewell to Rip Ride Rockit
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit was more than just a thrill ride—it was a technological innovation that blended music, speed, and personalization in a way that resonated with millions of guests. Its closure marks the end of an era for the park, but also signals continued investment in evolving the guest experience as Universal Studios prepares for its next chapter.
Fans are encouraged to take their final ride on Rip Ride Rockit before its closure later this year. More details about the upcoming replacement are expected to be announced in the coming months.
