If you’re planning to hit the water parks during your Orlando vacation this week, you’ll want to check the weather forecast first. Central Florida is experiencing an unusual February cold snap that has forced both Universal’s Volcano Bay and Disney’s water parks to adjust their operations.
Volcano Bay Closed Today
Universal Orlando Resort confirmed via their official Twitter account that Volcano Bay is closed today, Tuesday, February 4, 2026. The tropical-themed water park typically operates year-round, but extreme cold makes outdoor water activities both uncomfortable and potentially unsafe for guests.
The closure comes as temperatures in Central Florida have dipped well below normal for this time of year. Some areas have experienced record-breaking cold, with overnight lows dropping into the upper 20s and wind chills making it feel even colder.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Reopens After Extended Closure
Meanwhile, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is scheduled to reopen today after being closed since January 31. The water park was originally set to reopen on February 2, but Disney extended the closure through February 3 due to the persistent cold weather pattern affecting the region.
Blizzard Beach remains closed for its annual refurbishment and is expected to reopen later this year.
What This Means for Your Trip
If you’re visiting Orlando this week with plans that include water park days, here’s what you need to know:
- Check before you go – Both Universal and Disney update their park hours daily. Weather conditions can change operations at any time.
- Have a backup plan – With temperatures in the 40s and 50s during the day, the main theme parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Universal Studios Florida, Epic Universe, etc.) are all operating normally.
- Warmer weather is coming – Forecasts show temperatures returning to more typical Florida levels by the end of the week.
A Rare Occurrence
Extended cold snaps like this are unusual for Central Florida, especially in February. While brief overnight freezes happen occasionally, sustained cold that affects daytime operations is rare enough that it catches many visitors off guard.
The good news? Orlando’s main theme parks are built for all-weather enjoyment. So while the water slides might be on hold, there’s still plenty of magic to be had at all four Walt Disney World theme parks, Universal’s three parks including Epic Universe, and beyond.
I’ll continue to monitor the situation and update if any additional closures are announced.
