Shanghai Disneyland has shared new footage of coaster tracks being installed for its upcoming Spider-Man attraction, offering the clearest look yet at construction progress on one of the most anticipated new rides coming to any Disney park.
The resort’s official Instagram account posted the update Wednesday, April 1, 2026, captioning the reel: “Tracks emerging! Spider-Man’s high-speed adventure is loading!” The footage shows red coaster track sections rising into place at the construction site adjacent to the park’s Zootopia land.
What We Know About the Spider-Man Coaster
Shanghai Disneyland officially confirmed the Spider-Man roller coaster at the 2024 D23 Expo, alongside the first concept art for the ride. The attraction will be the centerpiece of a new Spider-Man land, marking the park’s first major Marvel expansion since it opened in 2016.
Based on official announcements and planning documents, here is what Disney has confirmed:
- Government planning documents filed with Shanghai’s Pudong district in 2024 describe both forward and reverse launch segments (Disney has not officially confirmed this)
- Track includes indoor and outdoor sections
- The coaster is located in a new Spider-Man-themed land, the ninth land at Shanghai Disneyland
- The new land sits adjacent to Zootopia, which opened in 2023
- Construction on the land began in 2025
Disney has not announced an opening date for the Spider-Man attraction.
What the Ride Could Be Like
Concept art released at D23 shows Spider-Man swinging alongside a red coaster train as riders pursue him through what appears to be an Avengers Campus setting. The W.E.B. logo from Disneyland’s WEB SLINGERS attraction appears on the vehicle and nearby crates.
A second piece of concept art depicts an indoor scene with red and blue lighting, suggesting at least one enclosed section of the ride. Planning documents from the Pudong district government, uncovered in 2024, described a project footprint of approximately 1.5 acres of above-ground floor area on a 5.26-acre lot.
The launch coaster format with forward and reverse elements puts it in similar territory to Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, which consistently posts among the longest wait times of any theme park ride in the world.
Shanghai Disneyland’s Growing Lineup
The Spider-Man coaster arrives as Shanghai Disneyland continues an active expansion period. The resort opened the Zootopia land in 2023, its second major expansion since launching in 2016. A third Disney-themed hotel is also under construction adjacent to the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel.
The new Spider-Man attraction will be one of the park’s first major launch coasters, giving it a ride type currently absent from the Shanghai Disney lineup. The park’s existing coasters include TRON Lightcycle Power Run, a high-speed indoor coaster, and the classic Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
