Disneyland Resort has shared new details about Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar as the Disneyland Hotel lounge celebrates 15 years of drinks, mugs, food, and Adventureland-inspired storytelling.
The Disney Parks Blog update highlights the bar’s backstory, its collectible mug history, its food and drink lineup, and practical access details for guests visiting the Disneyland Hotel location.
Trader Sam’s backstory and Disney details
According to Disney’s story for the location, Dr. Leonard Moss and Dr. Kon Chunosuke traveled up the Nile River in 1938 aboard the Mekong Maiden. The expedition included Rosa Soto Dominguez and Siobhan “Puffin” Murphy, and the group’s field notebook was eventually recovered by Trader Sam.
Disney says the notebook inspired Trader Sam’s specialty drinks and the bar’s layered storytelling. The location features tropical drinks, room effects, artifacts, photos, Easter eggs, and cast member humor tied to Jungle Cruise-style puns.
Disney also notes that Rosa Soto Dominguez is a nod to the Dominguez family, which owned land that later became Disneyland Resort. The family’s palm tree still stands outside the Jungle Cruise boathouse in Adventureland.
New Trader Sam’s mug and anniversary items
Trader Sam’s debuted in 2011, and Disney says the lounge has built a following around its collectible mugs. The newest highlighted release is the Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar 15th Anniversary Hyena Mug, served with the Barrel of Mischief cocktail.
The hyena mug is available at Trader Sam’s on Saturday, May 30, with an early mobile order release on Friday, May 29. Disney’s post also says the Zombie Mug, Piranha Pool Mug, and Krakatoa Punch Mug are available for purchase at the time of publishing.
Disney connects the bar’s mug culture to Southern California tiki history, including Don the Beachcomber, which opened in 1933 and helped popularize themed drinks and elaborately designed drinkware.
Food and drink menu highlights
Disney says Trader Sam’s reopens May 25 with menu highlights and limited-time 15th anniversary offerings. Anniversary cocktail highlights include Jungle Bird, Navy Grog, Lap Lapu, Saturn, Test Pilot, and Three Dots and a Dash. Trader Sam original cocktails listed by Disney include Ginger’s Pear-adise, Old Kungaloosh, Rosita’s Margarita, Ka-Blue-ie!, and Lost Safari.
The 15th anniversary food lineup includes BBQ Chicken Flatbread, Mac Salad, Chicken Katsu Curry, and Furikake Fries. Disney also lists breakfast items such as Tropical Pancakes, Ube-stuffed French Toast, a Kālua-style Pork Croissant Breakfast Sandwich, and Island Garden Avocado Toast.
Lunch and dinner options listed by Disney include Pork Gyoza, Tempura-Battered Green Beans, Chile-Orange Glazed Chicken Wings, Poke Bowls, Tonkotsu Ramen, a Pupu Platter, Kālua-style Pork Nacho Poutine, Pan Roasted Striped Bass, Coconut Cake, and ice cream or sorbet.
How to visit Trader Sam’s
Disney says Trader Sam’s is open to anyone, not just Disneyland Hotel guests. A theme park ticket or reservation is not required. Guests can use the Disneyland app walk-up list or visit the host stand at the entrance.
The location serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Disney lists breakfast items for the reopening, and breakfast is available to all ages. Children are allowed inside the bar until 8 p.m., and the location is 21 and older after 8 p.m.
Trader Sam’s also has both indoor and outdoor seating. The interior includes bamboo-lined spaces, shelves of artifacts, and walls decorated with photos from Trader Sam’s travels.
