Disney+ will become the global streaming home of Formula E under a multi-year agreement announced by Disney+, ESPN and Formula E. Starting with the 2026/27 season, every race will stream on Disney+ and ESPN+ in the United States, while Disney+ will carry the championship in most international markets.
The first calendar under the deal covers 21 rounds across 13 events. Competition begins December 18 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with stops in Austin, Miami, Monaco and Mexico City before the final round in Tokyo on July 25, 2027.
The GEN4 era begins
The 2026/27 season will introduce GEN4 cars, the fastest and most powerful in Formula E history. GEN4 cars will deliver 600kW of power, equivalent to more than 815 horsepower, and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 1.8 seconds.
That sprint is around 30% faster than an F1 car. It’s the 1.8-second figure that catches the eye. Formula E is also introducing an enhanced race-weekend format designed to create more competitive on-track action and increased sporting jeopardy.
Joe Earley, co-president of direct-to-consumer at Disney Entertainment, cited the championship’s combination of competition, technology and sustainability. Formula E chief executive Jeff Dodds said Disney’s global reach can introduce the series to millions of new fans as GEN4 begins. There’s also an opportunity for the companies to explore additional work beyond live race coverage, Dodds said.
Launched in 2014, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is now in its 12th season. It centers on electric racing and is the world’s only B Corp-certified sport.
Coverage across every session
Subscribers won’t be limited to the race broadcast. Coverage of every event will include preview and review shows, practice, qualifying and race sessions, along with highlights.
The current championship reaches its climax in London on August 15 and 16, with the world title set to be decided in the final race of the season.
Formula E will join Disney+ live sports programming, a lineup that includes the 2026 FIFA World Cup in South America and select LALIGA football rights in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Ireland and France.
The global live slate also includes NBA games in the Philippines and the UEFA Women’s Champions League across Europe and Latin America. Outside live events, Disney+ offers sports documentaries and original series, plus exclusive ESPN studio shows on Disney+ such as SportsCenter+ and Vibe Check.
