Muppet*Vision 3D may have closed its doors at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but the beloved attraction is getting a second life. Brian Henson, chairman of The Jim Henson Company and son of the late Jim Henson, confirmed that the show has been captured for Apple Vision Pro and other VR headsets.
Brian Henson Confirms the VR Experience
The confirmation came during a Q&A session at Puppet Up!, the improv comedy show currently running at The Montalbán in Los Angeles. When asked about MuppetVision’s future, Henson was characteristically upbeat.
“It’s better than it not coming to VR,” Henson joked, before explaining that camera crews did a thorough job capturing the show at Hollywood Studios before the attraction closed. According to The Wrap, the VR version will allow users to sit in any seat in the house, changing up the viewing angle of the experience.
A Legacy Worth Preserving
Muppet*Vision 3D holds a special place in Disney history. The attraction opened at Hollywood Studios in 1991 and was the last project Jim Henson personally worked on before his passing in 1990. It ran for nearly 35 years before closing to make way for new developments in the area.
The timing of this announcement lines up with a broader Muppets resurgence at Disney. All five seasons of The Muppet Show are now streaming on Disney+, and a new Muppet Show special featuring Sabrina Carpenter premiered earlier this month to strong reception. Disney is also converting Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios into an Electric Mayhem-themed attraction.
Fan Reaction Is Mixed
Response online has been split. Some fans are thrilled that the attraction is being preserved in any form, with one X user writing, “If Disney started selling defunct attractions as VR titles, I would actually get a headset.” Others, including YouTube creator Jenny Nicholson, have questioned why Disney wouldn’t simply bring the show back to Disneyland, where the original theater infrastructure largely remains intact.
What We Know So Far
No release date or pricing details have been announced. The experience is confirmed for Apple Vision Pro and other VR headsets, but specifics on which platforms beyond Apple’s are still unclear. We’ll update this story as more details emerge.
