Debuting in theaters May 2, 2025, Marvel’s newest announcement came on Superbowl Sunday amid some of the nation’s most-watched advertisements; the new trailer for the upcoming Thunderbolts* film debuted online Sunday evening, allowing fans from across the nation and across the world to experience this trailer for the first time.
Marvel studios also announced an exciting addition to the Thunderbolts* crew, revealing that the score for this new film would be composed by Son Lux, the three-member American experimental band that was nominated for both an OSCAR and a BAFTA for their score on the 2022 film Everything Everywhere All at Once. Jake Schreier serves as director for this film, with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D’Esposito, and Jason Tames serve as executive producers, giving Thunderbolts* a strong production team. Brian Chapek also makes a return to Marvel as executive producer for the first time in three years. Chapek, who had left the employment of Marvel Studios to start his own venture after his father became Disney’s CEO, last worked as producer for Thor: Love and Thunder which premiered in 2022.
Thunderbolts* will see the return of many more Marvel alumni to their famed roles, including actors and actresses like Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russel, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The cast also includes newcomers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with MCU debuts by Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, and Wendell Edward Pierce.
This unconventional task force of heroes – Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker – find themselves in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Louis-Dreyfus), who has made appearances in several MCU films leading up to Thunderbolts*. This rag-tag team of outcasts must come together as something greater than themselves or be torn apart as they embark on a dangerous mission to become the heroes on the front of the Wheaties box.
