Joey Fatone is going to hand you a hot dog on Saturday, September 19. Fat One’s Hot Dogs & Italian Ice, the spot the *NSYNC member founded with his manager Joe Mulvihill, officially opens that day at Universal CityWalk.
Both founders will be there. The first 100 guests get a wristband good for one free hot dog served by Fatone, who’s sticking around a limited time for photos. Universal is asking anyone who wants in to arrive at Fat One’s at 10:00 a.m. Space is limited, first come, first served.
What’s on the menu at Fat One’s?
Nine gourmet hot dogs. The toppings aren’t shy. The Fat One buries a footlong under roasted pork, pepperoni, chili beans, and cheddar cheese sauce, then finishes it with red onion sauce, pop fries, and chives on a soft bun. Pop fries. On the hot dog. I love that nobody in that kitchen said stop.
The Brazilian goes somewhere else entirely, pairing grilled linguica sausage with onion sauce, cotija, and Calabrian honey on a brioche bun. Jalapeño veganaise, red peppers, cilantro, and potato sticks pile on from there. The Dirty K-Pop Dog is the Korean-inspired one, built on kimchi slaw, spicy gochujang mayo, scallions, and crispy onions with black sesame.
Authentic Italian ices come in a variety of flavors, and specialty beers are pouring too.
What else is happening at CityWalk on September 19?
That same Saturday, Universal CityWalk has a second celebration on the books. The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen turns 10, and the party runs from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
There’s a chocolate display featuring Penelope and Jacques, an interactive chocolate dipping station, and an education on where chocolate actually comes from. A special Toothsome 10th Anniversary Milkshake is available for purchase during the celebration.
So the day sets up cleanly: hot dogs in the morning, chocolate in the afternoon, all within the same stretch of CityWalk.
Shark Take: The free hot dog is capped at 100 wristbands, so the morning arrival time matters a lot more than which dog you order. Get there for the 10:00 a.m. window, eat, then keep the afternoon open for Toothsome’s anniversary block. That’s a full CityWalk day without a park ticket in sight.
