“Groundbreaking. Literally.”
That’s how 20th Century Studios announced that The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer has set a jaw-dropping record — amassing 222 million views in just 24 hours, making it the most-viewed trailer in the studio’s history.
The studio’s celebration on X referenced one of the most iconic lines from the original film: “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.” Now the sequel itself is proving to be groundbreaking in its own right.
Record-Breaking Anticipation
This isn’t the first time The Devil Wears Prada 2 has shattered records. The teaser trailer released in November was the most-viewed trailer of 2025, pulling in 181.5 million views within its first 24 hours. According to Forbes, about a third of those views came from Anne Hathaway’s social media posts alone.
That teaser joined an impressive list of 2025’s most-viewed trailers, including Moana 2, Lilo & Stitch, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Toy Story 5, Avatar: Fire and Ash, Zootopia 2, The Odyssey, Michael, and Wicked: For Good.
The Original Cast Returns
Twenty years after the original film became a pop culture phenomenon, the gang is back together. Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all returning for the highly-anticipated sequel.
The new film also boasts an impressive lineup of newcomers, including Lady Gaga, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, and Rachel Bloom.
The preview includes a running joke in which Miranda doesn’t remember who Andy is — though fans of the original will certainly remember every iconic moment from the first film.
A Different Media Landscape
The sequel will tackle the very different media environment we live in today. The characters must deal with this new reality as Runway magazine attempts to stay relevant, with Andy now serving as the features editor.
The original Devil Wears Prada, based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, grossed $326 million worldwide against a $35 million budget. It earned Meryl Streep a Golden Globe for Best Actress and Academy Award nominations for both Streep and the film’s costume design.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 arrives in theaters on May 1, 2026.
