Disneyland is celebrating the Haunted Mansion this week, with the park’s official Instagram account sharing a fun post invoking the attraction’s most iconic quote.
The @disneyland account shared: “It’s a perfect day for grim grinning ghosts to come out and socialize” – a nod to the legendary song that plays throughout the attraction. The chant, performed by the ghostly ensemble known as the Grim Grinning Ghosts, has been a fixture of the Haunted Mansion experience since the attraction opened at Disneyland in 1969.
About the Haunted Mansion
The Haunted Mansion is one of Disneyland’s most beloved classic attractions and one of the park’s original “dark rides.” Guests board a Doom Buggy and travel through a mansion said to house 999 happy haunts filled with ghosts, ghouls, and supernatural surprises. The attraction is home to some of Disney’s most iconic audio-animatronics and effects, including Madame Leota, the floating head in a crystal ball who summons spirits in the Seance Room.
The “Grim Grinning Ghosts” song was composed by Buddy Baker with lyrics by X Atencio, the same Imagineer who wrote “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me)” for Pirates of the Caribbean. The song plays throughout the attraction and features a group of ghostly busts singing in harmony.
The Haunted Mansion is located in New Orleans Square at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and has sister versions at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris (where it is called Phantom Manor).
