Disney Cruise Line officially christened the Disney Adventure on Tuesday, March 4, 2026, in a ceremony at Marina Bay Cruise Centre in Singapore. Robert Downey Jr., named the ship’s godparent, presided over the event ahead of the vessel’s maiden voyage.

Robert Downey Jr. Named Godparent
“Our new ship continues Disney Cruise Line’s tradition of bringing great stories to life at sea, and we are honored that Robert Downey Jr., who has guided audiences through unforgettable Marvel stories, is the official godparent for the Disney Adventure,” said Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences and incoming Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company.
Downey’s portrayal of Tony Stark/Iron Man was the cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the highest-grossing film franchise of all time. His decade-plus journey as the character culminated in Avengers: Endgame, which earned more than $2.79 billion at the global box office. Downey was named a Disney Legend in 2019 and will star as Doctor Doom in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday, arriving in theaters on December 18, 2026.
“I’ve had the privilege of getting to know the team at Walt Disney Imagineering, and I can tell you Adventure is the perfect name for what they’ve created,” Downey said during the ceremony. “Being the Godparent of this majestic vessel is an honor, and I have some serious duties to perform, so let’s make it official, shall we?” Downey then delivered the official blessing: “I christen thee, Disney Adventure, may God bless this ship and all who sail upon her.” The ceremony culminated with a confetti burst and a parade of Disney characters performing “Let’s Set Sail.”
A First Look at the Seven Themed Areas
The Disney Adventure is the largest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet and the first to sail in Asia. The vessel features seven themed areas spanning attractions, dining, and entertainment, all drawing on more than 100 years of Disney storytelling.
Disney Imagination Garden

The heart of the ship is an open-air courtyard centered around the Garden Stage, where performances, character meets, and celebrations take place throughout each voyage. Two quick-service restaurants, Gramma Tala’s Kitchen and Mowgli’s Eatery, serve Pacific and Indian-inspired menus.
Town Square

A Disney Princess-themed area featuring the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, the Spellbound lounge, and the Enchanted Summer Restaurant. The nearby Walt Disney Theatre hosts Broadway-style productions including “Disney Seas the Adventure” and “Remember,” an original show created exclusively for this ship.
San Fransokyo Street
Inspired by Big Hero 6, San Fransokyo Street is a vibrant urban market with themed entertainment and shopping.
Marvel Landing

Home to Ironcycle Test Run, the longest roller coaster at sea and the first on a Disney Cruise Line ship. Pym Quantum Racers and Groot Galaxy Spin are also here, along with “Avengers Assemble!,” a live stage show with stunts and special effects.
Wayfinder Bay

Inspired by Moana, this retreat on the ship’s stern features pools, ocean views, and live entertainment.
Disney Discovery Reef
Themed to Disney and Pixar’s underwater worlds, Discovery Reef houses a collection of restaurants, bars, and cafes.
Toy Story Place
On the upper decks, Toy Story Place is a water play area with a family pool, whirlpools, water slides, and splash pads inspired by the Toy Story films.
Dining, Entertainment, and Accommodations
The Disney Adventure offers more than 20 dining and lounge venues with international and Asian-inspired cuisine. The ship also features character encounters, themed staterooms, concierge accommodations, and the Marvel WEB Workshop inside Disney’s Oceaneer Club, where young guests can try out Super Hero suit prototypes.
The maritime tradition of appointing a godparent to bless a new ship is a centuries-old custom believed to bring good fortune before a maiden voyage.
