S.E.A. Heads to D23 With a Mystery Artifact

Disney’s Society of Explorers and Adventurers is coming to D23 2026 with Walt Disney Imagineering, including a presentation at the Imagineering Pavilion and a mystery artifact pulled from the group’s archives.

D23 runs August 14 to 16, and the S.E.A. presentation, “An Inside Look at the Society of Explorers and Adventurers,” is set for August 14. Guests who aren’t attending in person are expected to get updates through the Walt Disney Imagineering Instagram account.

The D23 Appearance

S.E.A. and Walt Disney Imagineering are using the event to share more about the organization and the adventurers who make it up. The group is built around adventure, exploration, and the motto “Exploratio continua,” or continued exploration.

The presentation also brings a new archive reveal: a crate that has been unopened for at least a century is making its way to D23. That’s the detail that actually has teeth. Disney says neither Imagineering nor S.E.A. knows what’s inside, which gives the August 14 presentation a clear hook beyond a lore overview.

The crate comes out of a three-month cataloging effort by an S.E.A. archivist, who has been working through the Society’s artifact collection. That work has already turned up pieces tied to familiar names, including intricate Greek amphoras from Lord Henry Mystic and sarcophagi connected to Harrison Hightower III.

The S.E.A. Backstory

The Society of Explorers and Adventurers traces its beginnings back as far as the 1500s, with early roots at the mythic Fortress Exploration. Disney describes the group as a body of mariners, scientists, inventors, and artists that exchanged knowledge, tracked discoveries, and protected artistic achievements.

Modern S.E.A. members include academics, artists, athletes, and interdisciplinarians, while Disney identifies Camellia Falco separately as a historical Society member and avid aviator who invented devices to further humanity’s understanding of flight.

Disney names Mary Oceaneer, Dr. Albert Falls, and Lord Henry Mystic as figures associated with the Society of Explorers and Adventurers. Disney also points to Dr. Falls’ map of the world’s rivers, Lord Mystic’s manor of historical curiosities, and oars engraved with members’ names and notable expeditions as traces of S.E.A. members found around the world and across history.

The D23 presentation gives Disney a chance to pull that scattered mythology into one focused event. For fans who follow Imagineering lore, the August 14 artifact reveal is the piece to watch.
