Briar arrives at a New Orleans boarding school for the magically gifted while grieving her mother. Disney’s Coven Academy premieres October 1 on Freeform. D23 has introduced the witches, warlocks, teachers and one reluctant vampire whose lives meet at its New Orleans school.
The 21-chapter series follows three teenage witches caught between ancient supernatural wars and forbidden love interests. Tim Federle, of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, is an executive producer. At this school, the students’ secrets can be as dangerous as their powers.
Who are the students at Coven Academy?
Malina Weissman plays Briar, the grieving newcomer at the center of Coven Academy. She’s a sarcastic New Yorker adjusting to a boarding school for the magically gifted after losing her mother. New powers are only part of what she has to navigate. Letting her classmates get close may be just as difficult.
Malachi Barton plays Jake, a warlock drawn to Briar while he experiments with dark magic. He’s trying to make sense of a complicated past, and his interest in the new girl pulls him toward a love triangle. Louis Thresher plays Ollie, a newly turned vampire passing as the boy next door. Ollie also has feelings for Briar, while his new vampire family expects something of him.
Ora Duplass plays Tegan, a witch who can bend time. Her ADHD is both a challenge and the source of her powers, according to D23. She’s fiercely loyal to her friends. Jordan Leftwich plays Sasha, whose abilities let her read emotions and control thoughts. Sasha protects her friendship with Tegan and initially keeps newcomers at a distance.
Swayam Bhatia plays McKenna, the school’s funny, fearless queen bee. She’s also Jake’s stepsister, giving the student relationships another family connection.
Who teaches at Coven Academy?
Tiffani Thiessen plays Miss Graves, the head of school and a former student. She has secrets of her own and has devoted her life to preparing students for the battles ahead.
Devon Sawa plays Mr. Cole, a warlock and teacher who knows talent alone doesn’t make teenagers ready. A surprising new student shakes up Cole and the rest of the faculty. Briar’s arrival puts a grieving newcomer among classmates already carrying powers, loyalties and expectations of their own.
When does Coven Academy stream?
