Disney Worldbuilders started streaming on Disney+ on August 20, 2026.
Leslie Iwerks directed the feature-length film. The Aug. 3 Disney+ press note set the streaming date. The world premiere was Sunday, Aug. 16 at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
Shark posted the August 20 date when Disney+ announced it. The D23 screening date was already on the calendar. Iwerks talked about Disney Worldbuilders before the premiere.
Iwerks sits down with Bob Iger, James Cameron, Jon Favreau, Kevin Feige, Jennifer Lee, Pete Docter, Dave Filoni, Jared Bush, and Josh D’Amaro. Disney+ says the talks cover Avatar, Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pixar, Frozen, and Zootopia. It also covers how those stories become places at Disney’s theme parks.
Disney+ says the film gives a look at upcoming lands at Disney destinations around the world. The Disney+ press note does not name those lands.
Iwerks said she wanted to understand what ignites those storytellers. She said many of them traced the work back to walking through the gates of Disneyland as kids. She said they realized impossible dreams could become real.
Her grandfather was Ub Iwerks, Walt Disney’s original animator and a co-creator of Mickey Mouse. Her father, Don Iwerks, was a camera technician and inventor at Walt Disney Studios. Disney+ notes both are Academy Award winners and Disney Legends.
Iwerks also directed The Imagineering Story and Disneyland Handcrafted. Iwerks & Co. produced Disney Worldbuilders for Disney+.
