Michael Eisner, who served as Disney’s Chairman and CEO from 1984 to 2005, has publicly endorsed Josh D’Amaro as the new leader of The Walt Disney Company.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Eisner congratulated both D’Amaro and Chairman James Gorman for what he called “a wise pick.” He also praised the promotion of Dana Walden to President and Chief Creative Officer.
Eisner’s Advice to the New CEO
Eisner offered pointed advice to D’Amaro, urging him to “continue Bob Iger’s strategy that creativity will handle profits, always protect the brand, and keep close the words of Walt Disney.”
The former CEO then quoted Walt Disney himself: “We love to entertain kings and queens, but the vital thing to remember is this—every guest receives the VIP treatment.”
Eisner concluded his message with a simple “Good luck.”
The Eisner Legacy
Michael Eisner’s endorsement carries significant weight in the Disney community. During his 21-year tenure, Eisner transformed Disney from a struggling company worth $1.8 billion into a global entertainment empire. His era saw the creation of beloved animated classics like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King—a period now known as the Disney Renaissance.
Eisner also oversaw massive expansion of Disney’s theme park portfolio, including the opening of Disney-MGM Studios (now Hollywood Studios) in 1989, Euro Disney (now Disneyland Paris) in 1992, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 1998.
A New Chapter for Disney
Josh D’Amaro takes the helm at a pivotal moment for the company. As the former Chairman of Disney Experiences, D’Amaro brings deep knowledge of the parks and resorts division—the company’s most profitable segment.
His appointment signals Disney’s commitment to its core theme park business, which has seen record investments in recent years including the upcoming Epic Universe competition from Universal and Disney’s own ambitious expansion plans.
With endorsements from Disney legends like Eisner—and the challenge of steering one of the world’s most iconic brands—D’Amaro’s tenure as CEO will be closely watched by fans and shareholders alike.
