Presidents’ Day weekend is one of the busiest periods of the winter season at both Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort. In 2026, the combination of Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 17, Valentine’s Day falling on Friday, and school breaks across the country created a perfect storm for heavy crowds across all Central Florida theme parks.

Disney World Crowd Expectations

Wait times climb significantly during Presidents’ Day weekend. In the days leading up to the 2026 holiday weekend, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure hit 105 minutes, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run reached 95 minutes, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was at 90 minutes during regular park hours. These numbers typically increase further on the holiday weekend itself.

WDW Prep School’s crowd calendar rated February 14-16 as “very heavy crowds” at all four Disney World parks. Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios tend to see the biggest impact, while EPCOT often feels slightly more manageable due to its larger capacity and spread-out layout.

Tips for Managing Disney World Crowds

  • Arrive at rope drop. The first hour after park opening typically has the shortest wait times. Riding headline attractions like TRON Lightcycle Run, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, or Guardians of the Galaxy during the first 60 minutes can save hours of waiting later in the day.
  • Use Lightning Lane strategically. Lightning Lane Multi Pass becomes especially valuable on high-crowd days. Book your first return time as early as possible and stack throughout the day.
  • Consider park hopping. If one park is slammed, hopping to another after 2 PM can help you avoid the worst of the midday crowds. EPCOT and Animal Kingdom are often the best afternoon options.
  • Stay late. Crowds tend to thin out in the final 1-2 hours before park closing. Some of the best ride experiences happen after dark when many families with young children have left for the night.

Universal Orlando Crowd Expectations

Universal Orlando Resort also sees significant crowd increases during Presidents’ Day weekend, though wait times at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure are generally shorter than at Disney World during the same period.

Universal’s Express Pass becomes a particularly good value during holiday weekends. Unlike Disney’s Lightning Lane, Universal Express allows unlimited skip-the-line access to most attractions on a single day, which can dramatically improve the experience during peak crowds.

When to Visit Instead

If you have flexibility in your schedule, the weeks immediately following Presidents’ Day weekend typically see a noticeable drop in crowds. Late February and early March (before spring break season begins) are historically some of the best times to visit Central Florida theme parks, with shorter wait times and lower hotel prices.
