The Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast trained in archery and pack movement for Season 3’s huntress scenes. Dafne Keen, who plays Artemis, described the preparation at August’s D23 panel at the Anaheim Convention Center, ahead of the season’s November 20 debut on Disney+ and Hulu.
The camp gave the actors time to get acquainted before filming. “We’re supposed to be a body that’s been together for millennia,” Keen explained. She also teased a fight later in the season.
Tamara Smart described a different challenge for Thalia: committing completely to her emotions. Smart said she sometimes warned scene partners about how much personal space her performance would invade.
From gym rehearsals to changing friendships
Aryan Simhadri and Walker Scobell were neighbors during production, rehearsing even at the gym. Improvising and interrupting each other helped carry their friendship into scenes between Grover and Percy.
With Percy gaining experience, Simhadri said Grover’s role as a mentor shifts toward friendship. Scobell called six months working without Leah Sava’ Jeffries “weird.” Annabeth’s time with Luke, meanwhile, gave Charlie Bushnell more room to explore his character.
Finding the characters before filming
Olive Abercrombie and Levi Chrisopulos spent weeks developing Bianca and Nico’s sibling relationship. Abercrombie described the scale of the production and the amount of character preparation as surprises when joining the show.
Seeing Camp Half-Blood’s practical sets became a favorite memory for Chrisopulos after hearing about them during prep.
Saara Chaudry found her way into Zoë Nightshade through the daily process of getting dressed. Putting on Zoë’s circlet and coat, then carrying her bow and arrow, helped her embody the character.
Talos and the Titans
Executive producer Craig Silverstein described the Titans’ arrival as the point where the approaching war comes into focus. The Olympians themselves face possible destruction, putting pressure on the demigods as well as the gods.
Executive producer Dan Shotz singled out the Junkyard of the Gods and Talos as experiences he’s excited for viewers to see. Fans have already glimpsed that sequence in the Season 3 trailer.
Season 3 adapts The Titan’s Curse. With Annabeth captured by Kronos’s forces, Percy and Grover join unlikely questmates to rescue her, free a goddess in chains and confront a prophecy that threatens Olympus.
