The Avengers Campus expansion at Disney California Adventure has reached a significant construction milestone. The building that will house two brand-new attractions — Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab — is now clearly visible to guests inside the park, with vertical construction well underway and the structure nearly closed in.
This week, Disney invited cast members to take part in a beloved Disney construction tradition: signing their names on a steel beam that will become part of the new attractions’ infrastructure. The beam will never be seen by guests once the expansion is complete, but it’s a meaningful way for cast members to leave a lasting mark on the land’s history. Disneyland cast member @philanderc85 shared photos of the beam-signing event on Instagram.
Two New Rides Coming to Avengers Campus
The expansion will double the size of Avengers Campus with two new attractions that join the land’s existing lineup of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.
Avengers Infinity Defense is being billed as an action-packed E-Ticket attraction. The storyline centers on technology that allows the Avengers to jump between worlds going missing, with the multiverse villain King Thanos using it to wreak havoc. Guests will travel to iconic Marvel locations like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City alongside heroes including Iron Man, Hulk, Black Panther, and Ant-Man.
Stark Flight Lab will put guests in two-person pods on a robotic arm for a simulated flight experience. Robert Downey Jr. is reprising his role as Tony Stark for the attraction. Both rides share the same construction site and will be housed within the building that’s now taking shape behind the existing land.
What the Milestone Tells Us
The beam-signing tradition is a notable marker in Disney attraction construction. It typically takes place when a building’s steel structure is nearing completion — and the state of the Avengers Campus building confirms that. The structure’s roof is almost finished, and from the exterior, the building appears nearly complete.
Disney has not announced an official opening date for the expansion, or even an opening year. However, it’s worth noting that cast members at Walt Disney World just completed the same beam-signing tradition for the upcoming Encanto attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom — and that ride has been confirmed for a 2027 opening. The two projects appear to be in similar stages of construction, which could suggest a similar timeline for the Avengers Campus expansion.
A Busy Future for Disney California Adventure
The Avengers Campus expansion is the most advanced of several major projects in the works for Disney California Adventure. The park also has a Coco-themed indoor boat ride and a new Avatar-themed land in development. Disney is also building a new 6,000-space parking structure and transportation hub, with construction slated to begin in fall 2026.
As DCA prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary, the visible progress on the Avengers Campus expansion is a tangible sign that the park’s ambitious future is taking shape — one steel beam at a time.
