On April 18, 1994, Disney Theatrical’s first production — a stage adaptation of Beauty and the Beast — opened at the Palace Theater on Broadway. Since then, the company has turned beloved animated films into dazzling stage productions seen by millions of fans worldwide every year.

A few facts worth knowing before you dive in:
- Beauty and the Beast opened April 18, 1994 at the Palace Theater — Disney Theatrical Group’s very first Broadway production.
- The New Amsterdam Theatre, home to Aladdin, was restored by Disney in 1997 and is the oldest theater on Broadway.
- The Lion King has been running continuously since it opened at the New Amsterdam in November 1997 — now at the Minskoff Theatre.
Upcoming D23 Events Celebrating Disney Theatrical
D23 is using the quiz as a launchpad for two upcoming East Coast events. On April 22 and 23, 2026, D23 is offering exclusive tours of the New Amsterdam Theatre — complete with a special limited-release pin. If you want tickets, they’re available now on D23.com.
Then on April 26, D23 is hosting a night at the new touring production of Beauty and the Beast: The Musical in Boston. The evening includes event gifts and a talkback with the cast after the show.
