Ellen DeGeneres is returning as Dory for a new, still-untitled Pixar short set in the Finding Nemo universe, according to a Deadline report published April 24, 2026.
For Disney and Pixar fans, the practical takeaway is that the Finding Nemo franchise is active again, but there is not a release date, platform, title, or park tie-in to plan around yet.
The short
Deadline reports that DeGeneres will voice Dory, the blue tang fish she first played in Finding Nemo, in a new Pixar short. The report says the project is still untitled, with plot details under wraps.
Release plans are also still to be confirmed. Deadline reports that production is just beginning, and no additional creative attachments have been announced.
Dory’s Pixar history
Finding Nemo opened in 2003 with Andrew Stanton directing and co-writing the film. The movie followed Marlin, voiced by Albert Brooks, as he searched the ocean for his missing son Nemo, voiced by Alexander Gould.
The film grossed more than $941 million worldwide and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Dory became one of the franchise’s breakout characters, which led to the 2016 sequel Finding Dory.
Finding Dory brought Stanton back as director and grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, according to Deadline.
Disney Parks references
Deadline also notes that DeGeneres has continued voicing Dory outside the two theatrical films, and names Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage at Disneyland as one example of her Disney theme park attraction work.
That does not mean the new short has any announced park component. Deadline did not report an attraction update, entertainment offering, or Disney Parks release plan tied to the short.
What to watch next
The next real milestone is Disney or Pixar confirming where and when the short will be released. Until then, the important confirmed piece is simple: DeGeneres is returning to Dory, and Pixar is moving forward with a new Finding Nemo-universe short.
