I attended the Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord finale screening at Walt Disney Studios on Monday, May 4, and the event gave the Disney+ series the full celebration treatment.
The full first season of Maul – Shadow Lord is now streaming on Disney+. According to the official Star Wars series page, the show is set after the events of The Clone Wars and follows Maul as the former Sith apprentice tries to rebuild a criminal syndicate while crossing paths with a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan.

What the Maul – Shadow Lord finale screening was like
The Maul – Shadow Lord finale screening brought content creators together at Walt Disney Studios for a Star Wars event tied to the final episodes of the season. It included time on the studio lot, a carpet setup before the screening, and a Q&A setup after the finale.
Spending time at Walt Disney Studios was a highlight on its own. I also got to shop in the employee store for the first time, which was a fun bonus before the screening experience started.
The event had the kind of energy that works especially well for Star Wars. A lot of content creators showed up, the room was locked in, and the finale played beautifully with a crowd. That shared fan energy gave the screening a bigger, more memorable feel.

My spoiler-free thoughts on Maul – Shadow Lord
Maul – Shadow Lord worked for me because the story pulled me in quickly. The animation, performances, and pacing all helped the series feel cinematic, focused, and very much at home inside Star Wars.
This was my first time sitting down and really taking in the series, and I came in excited to see how a Maul-focused animated story would play. I left even more impressed than I expected.
The best way I can put it is this: after a few minutes, I was just watching Star Wars. The format felt natural, and the story took over.
The classic Star Wars pieces were all there. The choices between right and wrong. The pull of power. Characters being pushed into decisions that feel bigger than the moment in front of them. It felt like a real Maul story with weight, style, and momentum.

The finale had the room reacting
The Maul – Shadow Lord finale included a surprise that I will keep spoiler-free here. The important part is that the room reaction was immediate, loud, and exactly the kind of response Star Wars fans hope for during a finale screening.
People were yelling, cheering, and reacting in real time. The moment absolutely shook the room, and it turned the screening into a true shared Star Wars experience.
That kind of room reaction is part of what made the event special. A finale reveal can be great anywhere, but hearing a room full of Star Wars fans react at the same time gave the moment extra weight.

Why I am rooting for more Maul – Shadow Lord
After seeing the finale with that crowd, I am rooting for Maul – Shadow Lord to continue. The series made a strong case for itself by taking a character fans already care about and placing that character inside a story with real momentum.
Lucasfilm describes the series as expanding Maul’s story after The Clone Wars, during a period when vengeance against Palpatine and the Empire became a driving obsession. That setup gives the show a clear lane, and the finale made me want to see where that lane goes next.
I went in ready for a fun Star Wars screening. I left wanting more episodes. That is the cleanest compliment I can give it.

A huge thanks to Star Wars, Disney+, and Lucasfilm for having me at the finale screening. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is now streaming, only on Disney+.
