California drivers are one step closer to getting a Disneyland-themed specialty license plate, with proceeds set to benefit children’s hospitals across the state.

The California State Treasurer’s Office announced on May 5, 2026, that Treasurer Fiona Ma, Disneyland Resort, the California Children’s Hospital Association and the California Health Facilities Financing Authority are collaborating on a new Disneyland License Plate Benefiting Children’s Hospitals Program. The plate still needs Department of Motor Vehicles approval before it can be sold.

How the Disneyland license plate process works

The program is now in the early application stage. According to the California State Treasurer’s Office, the effort includes submitting the application, approving the plate design and reaching a preorder minimum of 7,500 license plates.

CHFFA has opened an interest form for people who want updates on the program, including design announcements, application details and future preorder opportunities. The Treasurer’s Office said the final design and preorder launch are expected in the months ahead, but neither has been released yet.

That means California drivers cannot order the plate through the DMV yet. For now, interested drivers can join the state’s interest list and choose whether they want to receive updates or be notified when preorders become available.

What the plate would cost

If approved, the specialized plates would cost $50 for a sequential plate or $103 for a personalized plate, plus a nonrefundable credit card processing fee. Annual renewal fees would be $40 for sequential plates or $83 for personalized plates, in addition to standard vehicle registration fees.

Revenue from the plates, after administrative fees, would go into a program fund in the State Treasury. CHFFA would administer the fund and award money to 13 children’s hospitals in California.

Which hospitals would benefit

The participating hospitals include Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach, Rady Children’s Health Orange County, Rady Children’s Health San Diego, UC Davis Children’s Hospital, UC Irvine Health Children’s Hospital, UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, UC San Diego Health Children’s Hospital, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco and Valley Children’s Hospital.

The program is being designed to support uncompensated healthcare services and programs, including certain personnel and clinical education costs, along with patient- and family-centered services tied to children’s care, recovery and well-being.

Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino said in the announcement that the effort continues Walt Disney’s legacy of bringing Disney experiences to children’s hospitals. The release also notes that The Walt Disney Company recently fulfilled a $100 million commitment tied to pediatric care experiences and has supported more than 1,700 children’s hospitals and pediatric places of care in 45 countries.

What California Disney fans should know

This is not a finished DMV product yet. The design has not been revealed, preorders are not open and the plate still has to clear the state process. The practical move for interested California drivers is to join the official interest list now, then wait for the design reveal and preorder campaign.
