A Power-Up Band isn’t required to enter, explore or play inside SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, but it’s the wristband that turns the land’s interactive games into a trackable challenge. The silicone band lets guests collect digital keys, coins and stamps, compare scores, and unlock Bowser Jr. Shadow Showdown.

There are eight character designs. Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Toad and Yoshi are sold at both Universal destinations, while Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are sold at Epic Universe. Every design works the same way and comes in the same size.

How much does a Power-Up Band cost?

Power-Up Bands cost about $40 each. At Universal Epic Universe, guests can find them at 1-UP Factory, Mario Motors and merchandise kiosks across the park. They’re also sold at the Universal Studios Store in CityWalk, Nintendo Super Star Store and Other Worlds Mercantile in Celestial Park, plus select Universal Orlando hotel gift shops.

At SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Universal Studios Hollywood, purchase locations include the SUPER NINTENDO WORLD STORE in CityWalk, the Universal Studio Store on the Upper Lot and the Character Shop on the Lower Lot. Inside the land, 1-UP Factory and a Power-Up Band kiosk also carry them.

And yes, choosing one really does feel like picking a character before the game starts.

How do you connect a Power-Up Band?

You’ll need the Universal Orlando Resort or Universal Studios Hollywood app to track progress. A QR code on the back of the band links it to the app, where the setup continues.

In the Universal Orlando Resort app, the SUPER NINTENDO WORLD area sits under the Immerse Yourself section through Universal Play. In Hollywood’s app, guests can select SUPER NINTENDO WORLD from the top menu or use Options and Add Band.

Which games use a Power-Up Band?

Both lands have four shared Key Challenges: Goomba Crazy Crank, Koopa Troopa POWer Punch, Piranha Plant Nap Mishap and Thwomp Panel Panic. They test quick cranking, precise timing and teamwork through different game mechanics.

Epic Universe has an additional challenge, Bob-omb Kaboom Room. Players collect pieces of a key around the room and assemble them before the giant Bob-omb explodes, with one or two friends making the task easier.

If Bowser Jr. Shadow Showdown is the goal, buy and link a band before starting the Key Challenges. Completing a challenge earns one digital key, and three unlock the showdown. A player’s shadow appears on the wall while they jump for “?” Blocks, duck under Bullet Bills, throw fireballs and knock away Bob-ombs to recover the Golden Mushroom.

What else can the band do?

Yellow “?” Blocks throughout SUPER NINTENDO WORLD make the familiar coin sound when struck. You’ll only bank those digital coins by hitting the block with the wrist wearing a Power-Up Band, and the linked app keeps the running total alongside stamps and rankings.

The band doesn’t stop working when the park day ends. It also functions as an amiibo in select Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games, giving the character wristband a second use at home.
