At Carowinds, Rip Roarin’ Falls opens in 2027 as a new record-breaking log flume built around a 100-foot drop.

Guests should expect a family-accessible water ride with a much bigger thrill profile than a traditional flume, including backward movement, a 100-foot drop, and a final splashdown built for Carolina summer heat.

The ride

Rip Roarin’ Falls is being built around a long-abandoned lumber mill story. Carowinds says riders will board a boat with seven other guests before moving through a rushing river that winds through the mill setting.

The ride path starts with a climb, then sends the boat into a backward rotation before the first major drop. From there, the flume continues toward the main tower, where riders face the 100-foot Mega Drop and reach a listed top speed of 50 mph.

The records

Carowinds is billing Rip Roarin’ Falls as a three-record attraction. The park lists the world’s tallest drop on a water ride or flume at 100 feet, the world’s tallest reverse drop on a water ride or flume at 42 feet, and the world’s tallest reverse camelback drop on a water ride or flume.

The official page also calls it the first Mega Drop on a log flume. Carowinds is presenting the project around height, reversing motion, and record claims.

What families can expect

The ride is designed for eight passengers per boat and more than 2,240 feet of high-flow water. Carowinds also lists two high-speed reversing switches and a fully offline ADA load station among the attraction details.

The minimum rider height is 35 inches with a supervising companion and 41 inches without one. That gives Rip Roarin’ Falls a broad family audience, even though the ride’s headline element is a 100-foot plunge.

Planning note

Rip Roarin’ Falls is currently listed for 2027, with Carowinds confirming the ride type, record claims, height requirements, and major show elements before an exact opening date.

Carowinds has not announced an exact opening date beyond 2027. For now, the practical planning note is simple: this is the park’s next big construction watch item, and it gives families another reason to keep Carowinds on the 2027 trip calendar. While the 2027 flume takes shape, the park’s summer 2026 slate keeps the calendar busy, including the Gazillion Bubble Show returning to Carowinds Theater.
